. Vr. and Mrs. Elmer Berg, who
recently returned from a European
trip, told Chamber of Commerce
members their impressions Mon
day, dividing the time and speak
ing in separate themes.
They went abroad for the third
international food congress in
Rome, which 130 American repre
sentatives attended, and visited six
countries, going as far north

the food, which she described as
rather uniformly excellent in the
different countries. Spain appeared
to be her favorite country. They

who presided, introduced William
Hamilton, first president of the
Chamber when its name was
changed from Commercial club.

of the Salem B.P.W., spoke briefly.
Its members attended in a body.

Judge Fined
for Lack
Of License
PORTLAND 10 - Municipal
' Judge Philip M. Baglcy was fined
$5 Monday for driving a car after
his operator's license had expired.
Dist. Judge Ray D. Shoemaker,
assessing the fine, observed that
"anybody can forget the due date
on. his license." Each driver's
license expires on his birthday
Bagley, who said his arrest by
a sherilf'i deputy was part of a
program of harassment of city
officials, was not in court. His
attorney entered a guilty plea for
him, out offered a receipt, too,
showing the license now has been
renewed.
Shoemaker said $5 Is the same
flno he recently gave another
motorist on the same charge.
Another charge against Bagley,
failure to transfer title to his
automobile, was dropped when it
was learned the transfer had been
made.

Group Appointed
A nominating committee of sev
en will name three candidates for
each of five divisions of the Salem
Chamber of Commerce from which
the members will elect one from
each division November 5. Terms
are three years and one third ex
pire annually. Three areas will
name new directors too, Keizor,
West Salem and Hollywood-Portland
highway.

Miller, George Paulus, Reynolds
Allen and Robert Nccdham. The
