Zoo's newlywed camels, settled
down today in the wake of nuptials
that smacked of the Arabian
Nights.
It seemed unlikely that skittish
Cecil and sultry Cecelia could
help ruminating over the human
hijinks that made them the , prin
cipals of a high-style wedding yes
terday. The knot was tied by a bur
noosed sheik at a camel-pen altar
arch while an organ pealed out
airs appropriate to the wedding
of the zoo's eight-year-old bache
lor and the five-year-old fiancee
imported for him from Australia.
While 3,000 guests watched Ce
cil and Cecelia scaled their vows
with a foamy kiss.

her swimming pool and said, "I
wish I hadn't won the Academy
award so soon."
Not that the Oscar for her 1952
portrayal of a frumpy hausf-au
"Come Back Little Shetu" !
has done her any harm.
'But, I felt it came much too
quickly. It was my first motion
picture, you know. I always think
you should work up to some
thing," she said.
Her success on the stage with
Shcba" and subsequent plays
came after many years of hard
work, frustration and tears. Miss
Booth, by the way, made her
Broadway debut in 1925 with a
young fellow named Humphrey
Bogart.
The red-haired actress is a tem
porary Houywoodian while ap
pearing in the play, "The Desk
Set".
"It's a funny thing," the went
on, "when success arrives in your
later years, no one is envious at
all. Older people hope the same
lightning might strike them; the
younger folks aren t a bit jealous
because they know you've been
working for it a loYig time."
Shirley, who doesn t look her
49 years, recalled a conversation
wilh her ex-husband, Ed Gardner,
created of Duffy s Tavern,
"Ed said, 'Shirley, people envy
me my success, but they all hopo
you'll make it to the top one of
these days. They say, . good ol'
Shirley, she's been pluggin' away
a long time.' "
Long mcmorled radio fans
might recall that Shirley played
the original "Miss Duffy" on the
radlj for two years. She and
Gardner were divorced In 1043.
Shirley interrupts her busy
schedule at the end of the month
for a two-month tour of England,
Franca and Italy. She returns to
San Francisco and several more
weeks with "The Desk Set". Ir.
January, she starts, "Next . of
Kin," her third motion picture.
She plumped some pillows be
hind her, leaned back and sighed:
"Ol' Shirley maybe a little
more tired is still pluggin'
away."
