- Golf association is announced for Wednesday,
'August 1. For this event, "the sky's the limit",

Spinsters club members arc lo meet Monday
night at the home of Miss Patricia Deency- with
Miss Julie Miller and Miss Sally Greig as co-hostesses.
Plans will be made for the annual summer
hencfit affair, a bridge party being planned for
'August 10 in Meier & Frank's-Salem store, lt will
be in the afternoon, between 2 and 4 o'clock, and
in the evening between 7 and 9 o'clock. Miss Alice
Lehman is general chairman. Proceeds go to the
'. club's philanthropic projects.

elllQUE Lance club is planning an informal
party for the night of Saturday, July 28,
at the American Legion club, dancing to
be between 9:30 and 12:30 o'clock. Casual attire,
summer cottons, is the dress for the evening.-
On the decorating committee are Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Scandling, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coolcy,
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Clark
Carlton, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel J. Fry, Jr.
Governor and Mrs. Elmo Smith will be leaving
next Thursday for southern California, the gover
nor being among special guests invited to the
Fiesta del Pncifico at San Diego. They also will
be in Los Angeles for a day and will return to the
capital, Sunday. The Smiths are making the trip
by plane.
Earlier,. Thursday, the governor is to address
the stale American Legion convention at Albany.
Sojourners club plans its semi-monthly party
next Thursday attcrndon at Salem Woman's club,
dessert to be at 1 o'clock.
Chairman for the day is Mrs. Jason Lee and on
her committee are Mrs. I. F. Bryan, Mrs. R. W.

Tells Betrothal
Joining the ranks of brides-elect is Miss Kathy
Walden.
Her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Waller Walden of
Molalla arc today announcing her engagement to
Arden Eby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Eby ot
Molalla.-
A December wedding is planned by the couple.
Both are graduates ot Molalla High school, Miss
Walden with the class of 1953, She is now em
ployed in the advertising department of the States
i an-Journal Publishing company and Mr. Eby is
part owner of a service station at Lake Grove.
Honoring their daughter, Miss Edcl Tctlic, and
her fiance, Robert Francis Harrington, the Rev.
and Mrs. Joseph Tetlie of Litllefork, Minn., will
entertain Saturday night at a dinner, the event to
follow the wedding rehearsal for Miss Tetlic and
Mr. Harrington. The couple will be married
July 29.
The dinner Saturday is to be at the home of the
Tellies' son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Palmer R. Sather. '
The Tellies are arriving at the midweek "or
their daughter s wedding. Also due in next week
from Annislon. Ala. to attend the wedding is an
aunt of the bride, Mrs. Harry Mel Ayers.

Annual Allied Arts
A colorful affair interesting a large group next
Saturday, July 28, will be the annual Allied Arts
Fair of Salem Art association. The event will be
staged on the grounds at the Bush House, Salem
Art museum, High and Mission streets, between
12 o'clock noon and 5 p.m. 1
Many artists in varied fields from Salem and
surrounding valley areas will participate in the
affair and will set up their work between 10 a.m.
and 12 o'clock noon.
The fair will open at noon then with invitation
extended to all interested to attend. A nominal
entry fee is being charged exhibitors, half of the
money realized to buy work of Oregon artists for
the permanent collection atBush House, the other
portion to go toward defraying expenses.
Effort is being made to give all the color that
goes with such affairs, a la Greenwich Village or
Paris sidewalks. Lines will be strung up to hang
unframed pictures and other type of work. Exhi
bitors are being asked to take their own materials
step-ladders, tables, and other equipment. Some
of the artists will do their painting or work on the
grounds. Organ music will be presented through
the Wiltsey-Weathers Music company.
. Much of the artistic work displayed will be on '

married on August 4 to Richard Wilbur Pearson.
The ceremony is to be solemnized at 10:30 o'clock
that morning in St. Joseph's Catholic church with
the Rev. Joseph Vanderbeck officiating.
Miss Patricia Corrigan is to be maid of honor
for her sister. Miss Dolores MacMahon, Miss
Sharon Falleur of Warrenton, Ore., cousin of the
bride, and Miss Lonnie Pearson, sister of the
bridegroom, are to be bridesmaids. Cathy Burke,
a cousin of the bride, will be flower girl, and
Bruce Pearson, brother of the bridegroom, will be
ring bearer.
Donald Endrcs is to be best man. Groomsmen
will be William Drakeley, Steve Caldwell and
Jeith Boyer, and serving as ushers will be Jerry
Bischoff and Jack Loy.
. A breakfast for the bridal party and families
of the couple will be served in St. Joseph's rectory
following the service, and at 1:30 p.m. a recep
tion is planned at the home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. George A. Corrigan. Mr. Pearson is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur D. Pearson.
An event of Sunday afternoon will be the lea for
'which Mrs. Preston F. Doughton and her niece,
Mrs. David A. Rhoten, are entertaining at the
Doughton home. The tea honors Miss Carolyn Av
erill of Portland, who i- to be married on Septem
ber 1 to Mrs. Doughton's son. Robert P. Doughton.
Hours for the tea will be between 3 and 5
o'clock. Receiving with the hostesses and hono'ree
will be the latter's mother, Mrs. Harold L. Averill
of Portland.
Pouring will be Mrs. I. M. Doughton and Mrs.
Millard B. Doughton. Others assisting will be Mrs.
Wayne Doughton, Mrs. Ivan Stewart, Mrs. Dorothy
Bryant of Dallas.
In the evening, after the lea, Mr. and Mrs.
Preston Doughton will entertain at a buffet sup,
per for the engaged couple and members of the
families. Miss Averill's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Har
old L. Averill, will be here from Portland for the
day.
Lt. and Mrs. Paul S. Hawkins (Nancy Miller)
arc expected in Salem in early August, to visit
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Burr Miller. Lt. and
, Mrs. Hawkins have been in Fairbanks, Alaska, for
nearly a year and a half.
Rolana club will meet on Monday, July 23, at
7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Lester Thomas,
1595 Roosevelt. Co-hostesses will be Miss Helen
Songcr and Mrs. Darrell Walker.
An event for Sunday will be the at home honor
ing Mr. and Mrs. William George Walling on the
occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.
Friends are invited to call at the Walling home,
1066 Northwood Drive, between 2 and 5 o'clock.
Hostesses for the event are the couple's three
daughters, Mrs. William C. Read and Mrs. Carl
L. Donovan, both of Salem, and Mrs. Gordon

tion association in Portland; Salem Camera
club with black and white division, salon prints
and colored slides; Pentacle Theater group; Cas
cade Artists group from the coast area.
Ceramists, jewelry workers, leather craftsmen,
painters in both water colors and oils, lapidary
enthusiasts and others will be exhibiting.
Of special note will be the collection of pen
and ink etchings by Heinz Laetsch, recently of
Germany. This will be one of the special exhibits
in the only-display section.
Other craltsmen in various fields of art who
might not have been contacted are invited to par
ticipate. Mrs. Chandler Brown is general chairman tor
the fair. David Duniway, publicity; Rex Peterson,
exhibits; Mrs. Logan C. Berry, concession; Robert
Sprague, registration; and Eslhel Benner, music,
are olher chairmen assisting with arrangements.
Style Show Due
All the color and excitement of a New York
fashion salon will prevail at the Salem Knights of
Columbus hall on Friday August 3, as "Family
Fashions Around the Clock" are presented at the
Serra Catholic High school benefit fashion show.
The latest styles for the entire family will be
modeled at the showing which is scheduled for
8 p.m.
For the benefit show, Meier & Frank's-Salem
has made available their collection of now all
creations. Clothing (or morning, afternoon and
evening wear for men, women and children will
be featured.
Leading the parade of "Fashions Around the
Clock" will be robes and lounging wear for the
family. Nine o'clock will spotlight housedresses for
the ladies, business suits for men and play clothes
for the children.
As the clock strikes 1 it will be the newest in
afternoon frocks for the women and drcss-up
, clothes for the children.
Dinnerl time is barbecue time, and the latest
in outdoor fashions arc to be worn by the chef
and all his helpers. After dinner is served on the
patio it's bedtime for the children and as the baby
sitter arrives the "around the clock fashion spot
light" is on mom and dad in their high fashion
styled evening wear.
Mrs. H. C. Saalfeld and Mrs. Morrell Crary are
co-chairmen for the event.
Mrs. .Winston Williams of Escondido. Calif. Is
arriving in Salem by plane Sunday for a two
weeks' visit with her mother, Mrs. Thomas Hoi
man. Joseph A. H. Dodd, district manager for the
Portland Gas and Coke company, is to be guest
speaker for the luncheon meeting of Salem club
of Zonta International next Thursday noon at the
Golden Pheasant. He is to discuss the natural gas
program.

Past Oracles club, R9y.1l Neighbors of America,
will meet on Tuesday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m. at th
home of Mrs. E. B. Kasson, 681 Center St.
Mrs. Blanche Gaines, who is moving to Portland,
will be honored with a farewell shower.
Of interest to Salem friends is the coming wed
ding of Miss Joan Dunn and William Russell of
Salem and Portland.
The ceremony will be solemnized next Satur
day night, July 28, at 8 o'clock in the Mt. Tabor
Presbyterian church in Portland. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earlmund Franklin
Dunn of Portland. Mr. Russell is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ashley Russell of Portland. He is a
nephew of Mrs. Marie Ling of Salem.
The couple plan to live in Salem, Mr. Russell
being with the state public utilities commission
office.
