Actor's Son
Suspected of
Drunk Driving
WEST LOS ANGELES Ml - Ed-1
ward G. Robinson Jr., 24, son of:
the stage and screen actor, was
booked Thursday on suspicion of 1
drunk driving after, police said,'
his sportscar collided with four
parked cars two blocks from his
home. i
Robinson was uninjured, officers
reported, but attendants at Santa
Monica Hospital said that a pas
senger in his car. Martin Barth,
37, will lose the sight of his right
eye.
Police officers George Adams
and Robert Sauter said Robinson's
car apparently went out of control
on a turn, caromed off the parked
cars and came to rest about a
half block away.
Barth is a television studio
worker. Robinson said he had
been working with Barth at a TV
studio Wednesday night, that they
drove to Malibu for dinner and
hat' "two drinks" on their way
home.
Robinson lives near the crash
scene. Barth lives in Hollywood.
Officers Sauter and Adams
quoted Robinson:
"I guess I'm in for it this time.
The judge tola me that if I ever
showed un before him again on
a drunk charge he'd give me 90
days."
180 Cases of I
Polio Listed
WASHINGTON W The Public
Health Service said Thursday 180
new polio cases were reported
last week, only four more than'
the preceding week. .
"The increase was not as much
as could have been expected dur
ing this period of seasonal rise,"
a Health Service spokesman said.
However, he again declined
comment on whether the relative
ly low level of cases reflects use
of Salk polio vaccine. Nor would
he discuss the future outlook, re
calling that the big spurt in the
195! record year did not start un
til July.
The 180 cases last week com
pared with 263 for the week a
year earlier and 294 for the cor
responding 1952 week.
As the weekly report on new
cases came out, the Health Serv
ice also announced release of
4.170,591 doses of new vaccine. It
was made by Eli Lilly and Co.,
Indianapolis.
This pushed June releases to i
record monthly total of 10.979.505
doses. The previous record was
9.510.309 in May.
