bombing, Wednesday was sen
tenced to six months in the county
jail for contempt of court.
Circuit Judge Martin W Haw
kins sentenced Peddicord, 38, (or
contempt in refusing to testify at
the trial of his sister-in-law, Mrs.
Joyce Keller. The sentence will
run concurrently with the longer
prison term.
Judge Hawkins freed Mrs. Kel
ler Tuesday of a charge that she
helped Peddicord carry out the
April. 1955, bombing at the Meier
and Frank department store here.
The judge returned a directed ver
dict of acquittal.
Missing Heifer
Found in Culvert

a roadway culvert near the!
Hooser farm. The keifer had
walked Into the culvert, and. find
ing the other end blocked with
rubble, refused to back out.
Hooser coaxed her out and found
she had lost some 200 pounds
during Imprisonment. j

ALBANY - Voters of Albany
school district No. 5, 39P of them,
approved by a margin of 60 votes,
S28 yes and 168 no, the district
school budget which calls for ex
penditures totalling (717.430.71 dur
ing the 1956-57 school year.
The new budget provides, in
addition to other expenditures,
salary increases (or most teachers.
Of the total budget $573,785.71 is
allocated to the general fund ana
$143,645, which is not subject to
the 6 per cent limitation.
The general fund Budget is
$400,133.33 in excess of the 6 per
cent increase over the highest
previous budget in the last pre
ceding three years, as set by law.

Rickreall School
Will Close Friday
RICKREALL The school at
Rickreall will close this week with
i picnic on Thursday and the
students coming for their report
cards on Friday.
Graduation exercises were held
last week when 11 were grad
uated from the eighth grade.
Due to the outstanding work of
several of the students it was too
difficult to pick a valedictorian
and salutatorian, however honor
able mention was made of Mary
Butler, Tommy Hansen, Vincent
Haworth, Jr., and Donlee Schell-
enberg, who were given certifi
cates of merit.
Others in the class were Kay
Andrson, Carey Schmidt, Chappy
Arnold, Luella Frence, Norman
Viebe, Marlin Lowery and Vicki
Curry.
The commencement address
was given by Kenneth Yost, as
sistant professor of art educa
tion at Oregon College of Educa
Hon in Monmouth.
The diplomas were presented
by Vincent Haworth, chairman of
the school board.

W. Slay Ion School
To Close Friday
WEST STAYT0N The annual
school picnic will be held at the
West Stayton school Friday. The
bus will leave to pick up the chil
dren around 10 a.m. so as to have
them at the school house at 11 to
give out the report cards. The
picnic is for the children as well
as the parents.
Parents are asked to bring a
main dish and a dessert for the
pnt luck dinner and their own
silverware and dishes.
Ice cream will be furnished by
the Community club. There will
be ball games and other enter
tainment. A lield trip was enjoyed by the
seventh and eizth grades with
their teacher. Mrs. Mary Avers.
Friday of last week. They visited
the paper mill at Orecon City
and the historical McLaughlin
home.
