All friend, interestfd in the work of the Salva
tion Army Arc extended invitation t attend the
informal coffee planned for Sunday afternoon,
April 29, by the Salvation Armv advisory board at
the Kingwood Hcishts home of Justice and Mrs.
.bmcs T. Brand. Honrs for the affair are between
2:30 and 6 o'clock. Proceeds from this benefit go
to the scholarship fund of the Salvation Army.

of the Salvation Army, and with them at the differ

der of Eastern Star, will meet Tuesday at 1:30

Salem Navy Mothers club will meet at the home

Evening literature group of the American Asso
ciation of University Women plans its meeting
next Wednesday at the home of Miss Lelia John--son.

Miss Groshong Wed
c Mount Angel-St. Mary's Catholic church was
the selling for a prettv wedding Saturday morning,
when Miss Barbara Jean Groshong, daughter of
Mr and Mrs. James Marion Groshong of Scolts
Mills was married to Earl l.andnn. son of Roy
London of Scolts Mills, and the lale Mrs. London.
Daffodils and while blossoms with greenery and
tall lighted tapers in candclabrums decorated the
altars and sanctuary for the service. The Rev.
Hildebrand Melchior, O.S.B., officiated at the 10
o'clock double ring ceremony and nuptial hiuh
mass in the presence of a large gathering of rela
tives and friends. Serving as altar boys were Billy
and David Worley. For the music, the St, Mary's
church choir sang the mass and Miss Helen Keber
was organist. Miss Patricia Anderson sang before
the service and again preceding the recessional
while the couple knelt at the side altar of Our
Blessed Mother. .
Mr. Groshong escorted his daughter to the al
tar. The bride wore a Chantilly lace and nylon
tulle over white satin dress. The fitted bodice of
lace, stvled with a sweetheart neckline and long
lace sleeves, tapered over the hands. The full bouf
fant skirt of nylon tulle over satin terminated in a
chapel length train. Scalloped Chantilly lace bor
dered the skirt and the sides of the front inset of
ri. -ivH tulle A Juliet can of lace and tulle with
rhinestone and seed pearl trim held in place a
fingertip illusion veil. The bridal bouquet contained
large orchids with a cascade of ycHow cymbidium
erchids and yellow centered white daisies.-

Sorority Luncheon
An event for next Saturday, April 28, attracting
visitors from all over Oregon will be the annual
International Reunion Day for Alpha Gamma Delta
alumnae. "To cherish friendship" is the theme
for. the day's prof mm.
Registration will be between 12 and 1 o'clock at
the Marion hotel.
The luncheon is to be in the hotel Gold room
at 1 o'clock.
Miss Norma Johanscn of Portland, state alum
nae chairman in the sorority, is to be a special
guest. Alumnae from various cities and active
members from University of Oregon and Oregon
State college are to attend.
Mark Hatfield, dean of men at Willamette uni
versity, is to be the featured speaker. Miss Jane
Hande is toastmistrcss for the luncheon.
Mrs. Robert Gordon is general chairman for
arrangements for the day's reunion. Mrs. Stanley
Rolfness is in charge of reservations. Mrs. Peter
Bennison and Miss Jane Hande arc chairmen for
the program. Mrs. James H. Turnbull is chair
man for accommodations, assisted by Mrs. Vern
Kitchell: and Mrs. Estill L. Brunk is arranging
the decorations. Miss Mary Ellen Davey is chair
man for favors.
Films of Alaska will be presented by the Globe
Travel Service in the next of the series of vacation
teasers, offered by the young adult department of
the YWCA Tuesday evening. A tentative vacation
trip to that area will be outlined. There is no
charge for the program which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Donald L. Rasmusscn, YWCA membership
chairman, announces that there will be a member
ship luncheon at the YWCA on Tuesday from 12 to
1:30 o'clock. Mrs. C. A. Barnes, former member
of the YWCA national board from Eugene, will be
the honored guest. Reservations for this luncheon,
which is a special feature of national YWCA week,
may be made at the YWCA. Mrs. Robert D. Gregg
is chairman of the event.
Maurice Merrill will demonstrate cake decorat
ing at the YWCA class in hostessing helps Thurs
day afternoon, from 1 to 3 o'clock. Those who have
not registered and are attending this one session,
are asked to notice the change of time of the pro
gram. Mothers club of bethel 48, Job's Daughters, will
meet at the home of Mrs. Boyd A. Filler, 260 South
19th street Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Saturday Morning

nephew of the bridegroom.
Itolierl Landon of Coos Bay was besl man for
his brother, and Harold Jackson of Scolts Mills
was groomsman. Ushers were Henry Splonski of
Salem, uncle of the bride, and Dnnqld Frey of
Canby.
Mrs. Groshong. mother of the bride, selected a
blue nylon dress for her daughter's wedding. With
it she wore a matching hlue hat and red acces
sories, and a corsage of rosebuds. Among the
guests ol the wedding was Mrs. Paul Splonski of
Scotls Mills, grandmother ol the bride.
The reception which followed the church service
was arranged in the dining room of St. Mary's
school, where a noon luncheon was served to more
than 200 guests. Daffodils and spring blossoms and
candles decorated the tables and the reception
room. The bride's table, covered with a white linen
cloth, was centered with an arrangement ol can
dles and flowers. A three-tiered wedding cake dec
orated in white with daisies was topped with a
triple wedding bell ornament.
Cutting the cake were Mrs. Joseph Ferlan of
Molalla. godmother of the bride, and Mrs. John
Splonski. aunt of the bride. Presiding at the coffee
urn were Mrs. Henry Splonski of Salem, aunt of
the bride, and Miss Elsie Dale of Scotts Mills.
Mrs. Anthony Beilenberg served the punch, and
was in charge of the gift table. Miw Diana Landn,
sister of the bridegroom, circular the guest book,

of Christian Service of the Leslie Methodist church
will meet Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 for dessert

Gail Brunson will lead the devotional period. Mrs.
Sidney VanDyke. president of Salem United Church
Women, will be a special guest and talk on the
migrant work projects in the planning of the Salem

Nile Club Benefit to
One of the larger benefits of the mopth is
Scheduled for next Friday, April 27, The annual
card party given by Salem club, Daughters of the
Nile, at the Scottish Rite temple. Proceeds from
the party go to the Shriners hospital for crippfcd

An interesting meeting has been arranged for
Rotarian Women, Monday, when the group gathers
nt l.ipman's Cherry room for luncheon at 1 o'clock.
Winners in the recent public speaking contest
in Eugene for high schools will be presented, each
to give a five-minute talk, They include George
Andrews, North Salem High school, who is to pre
sent a humorous toll;; Joy Brown, North Salem
High school, an oration on world pence; Bill Ford,
South Salem High school, an after dinner speech
on Leap year; and John Anderson, South Salem
High school, an impromptc Inlk.
The nominating committee is to report and new
officers will he elected.
A charmingly arranged social affair of Friday
was the tea for which members of Chapter G
of P.E.O. Sisterhood entertained to honor Mrs.
ltobert I.. Elfslrom, about 250 calling for the affair.
Mrs. Elfstrom is state president of the P.E.O.
Sisterhood and a member of Chapter G.
The tea was given ot the Fairmount Hill home
of Dr. and Mrs. G. Herbert Smith,, The home was
beautifully decorated with varied spring flowers.
The lea table was covered with an embroidered
cloth, the centerpiece an arrangement of Calla
lilies and yellow Dutch irises.
Mrs. Ralph Day of Portland, slate organizer,
was among the slate officers attending, and a
group of more than 20 Portland women, including
past stale presidents and others who have served
on the state board with Mrs. Elfstrom, came for
the affair to honor her.
Mrs. Elfstrom will be retiring from the state
presidency following the state convention on the
Lewis and Clark college campus, June 6-8.
YWCA Mothers club will meet in Ihe YW Social
room Thursday at noon. New officers will be elect
ed. Alex Agnthonns, exchange student from Greece,
and Sigrid Bruchl, exchange student from Ger
many, will present Ihe program on teen-agers in
foreign countries.
Mrs. Dennis Clarke was honored with a surprise
shower Friday evening, when Mrs. Marvin Brown
and Mrs. Neil Rileltc were hostesses at the Brown
home. Dessert was served following the opening of
gifts.

Mrs. Herbert Clarke of Arlington, Mrs. Mac Procb

News has been received of Ihe marriage of Miss
Lois Livingston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Livingston of Eugene, to Frank L. Browned, son
of Mrs. Frank L, Brownell of Salem, in Tangier,
Africa on March 24.
The ceremony look place in Ihe home of a mis
sionary from the Anglican church.
After a honeymoon in Tangier, the couple went
lo Spain, where they spent some lime at Algccirns
and enjoyed Ihe Holy Week celebrntion in Seville.
They will live in Seville, where Mr. Brownell is
with the Brown, Raymond, Walsh construction com
pany. The hridc is to be a nurse in the U.S. Navy
Base hospital in Seville later in the spring.

Next regular meeting of Soroptimist Internation
al club of Salem, will he Wednesday noon at the
Golden Pheasant. Speakers from the League of
Women Voters will discuss the measures appearing
on the city ballot in the primary election.
At the recent social meeting of the club at the
home of Miss Helen Benson, Mrs. Abner Kline
spoke on her four-month stay in England. She
told of visits with various Soportimist clubs in that
country, and of the club at Weston-Super-Mare;
which is a sister club to the Salem club.
Miss Benson showed pictures of a vacation in
the Canadian Rockies. A letter was read from Dr.
and Mrs. R. Sandilands, former Oregon residents
now medical missionaries in the French Cameroon...
Mrs. E. W. Hughes and Mrs. Paul Van de Velda
were the winners for north and south at the Knights
Df Columbus Junior bridge tournament this week.
Mrs. A. L. Elvin and Mrs. E. A. Guenthner were
second. The enst and west positions were won by
Mrs. Charles Rich and Mrs. W. G. Rogers. Follow
ing were Mrs. Marth Harrington and Mrs. Edith
Cunningham.
Walt Clinc and Mrs. Everelt Day won lirst north
and south in the senior tournament. Second place,
went to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Charnholm. East and
west section was won by Gordon Wilcox and Dr.
Felix Dilger. Second were Mrs. Walter Clme and
Mrs. Kathcrinc Lutz.
Junior Symphony
Second concert ot the season for Salem Junior
Symphony orchestra will be next1 Wednesday night
in Leslie Junior High school auditorium at n: IS
o'clock. Dr. William Swctlman is conductor.
Soloists for this concert will be John Gibbcns at'
the cello and Ronald Polls as pianist.
