In Albany
ALBANY The 42nd annual
state conference of the Oregon
State Society, Daughters of the
American Revolution, will be in Al
bany Thursday, Friday and Satur
day of this week, with the First
Presbyterian church as conference
headquarters.
Host chapters with Linn chapter
of Albany will be Belle Passi, Coos
Bay, Champoeg, Chemekcta, Ore
Ron Lewis and Clark, Santiam,
Winema and Yamhill. Mrs. S. Y.
Taylor, Albany, is regent of Linn
chapter.
Mrs. Albert H. Powers, Coos
Bay, state regent, will preside over
the sessions.
Thursday night at the First
Presbyterian church the confer
ence banquet will be conducted
with William Bade, director of
Oregon Business and Tax Re
search Bureau, as guest speaker.
At the Newell House luncheon Fri
day, Prof. Kenneth Holmes will
speak. At the Oregon State Society
birthday dinner at the United Pres
byterian church, Friday evening,
Miss Jcannettc I. Dcntler, Port
land, honorary stato regent, will
speak, and at the luncheon on Sat
urday Governor Elmo Smith will
present the Good Citizenship
awards, and Lt. Col. James M.
Kulp, USA will give the address
on "Patriotic Education and the
Military."
As a closing feature Saturday
afternoon new state officers and
governors will be introduced,

tea of Salem General Hospital
auxiliary. Thursday atternoon, at
the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles
W. Mills. Guests are invited to

meeting for Cascade Chapter, Na
tional Secretaries association, was
Tuesday evening at the Golden
Pheasant. Mrs. Lonnie Hughes in
troduced the guest speaker Dr.
Nell McCue, director of Capital
Business college, who conducted a
discussion on "Qualifications and
Educational Requisite of Young
Future Secretaries."

Annual bosses breakfast given
by members of Salem Credit Wo
men's Breakfast club was Tuesday
morning in the Gold room of the
Marion hotel. The Rev. Louis E.
White gave the invocation. Mrs.
Larry Fitzgerald welcomed the
members and guests and Carl
Armstrong r e s p o n d cd for the
bosses.
The tables were centered with a
"Tree of Credit," with green and
yellow papers with credit sayings
hanging from each limb, and cen
tered with a large centerpiece of
daffodils and plum blossoms.
Two pantomimes were given by
Wesley Armstrong and Larry Lon
nigan. Mrs. Chester Cushing Jr.,
sang several Irish selections, ac
companied by Mrs. John
Chamberlain. Miss Lena Blum,
program chairman, introduced
guest speaker Francis . W.
Smith, president of Credit
Bureaus, Inc., and also pres
ident of the Associated Credit Bur
eaus of America. His topic was
"Management Goes Back to
School."

Boggs Turneaure, formerly of Sa
lem, to Dr. F. M. Dryden, medical
officer at the Maywod Air Force
depot in California. The wedding
was January 26 in the Presby
terian church at San Marino. The
bride lived here for many years,
then lived in Hood River. She
has resided in Pasadena for the
past four years. The couple are
at home at 305 Grant, Pasadena.
They plan to come north this sum
mer for visits in Salem and Hood
River.

SPANISH-STYLE CHICKEN
Ingredients: 1 broiler-fryer (about
3 pounds ready-to-cook weight),
t cup flour, 1 teaspoon salt, '. tea
spoon pepper, 2 tablespoons pea
nut oil, 2 tablespoons butter, y
cup water, 1 can (8Mi ounces)
small young peas, 1 can (4 ounces)
rimientos.
Method: Hnvc chicken cut in 8 to
10 pieces; reserve neck and gib
lets lor other use. wash and dry
Mix flour, salt and pepper or
waxed paper or in paper bag; roll
or shake chicken in flour mixture.
Heat peanut oil and butter in 12
inch skillet until very hot; add
chicken and brown woll. Add water
and cover tightly; cook rapidly
until tender; watch so as not to
scorch and turn as necessary;
chicken should be very brown at
end of cooking 20 to 30 minutes.
Remove chicken from skillet to
serving platter and keep warm
Add peas and pimicntos (quar
tcrcd) to skillet, including liquid
in both cans. Stir over low heat
with wooden spoon to get up
browned particles irr skillet; add a
lit lie more water if necessary to
thin sauce. Pour over chicken and
serve at once. Makes 4 servings
