Guild Increases Sum
For Sunday School
Action to augment their financial
assistance to the sum of $900 to
the Sunday school to buy equip
ment was voted by St. Anne's
guild of St. Paul's Episcopal
church in meeting Monday after
noon. Previously, the guild had ap
proved $500 but upped the amount
in the Monday session.

nae groups met Monday.

alumnae at. the home of Mrs. Sid
ney Huffman, Mrs. Stanley Ross
of Spokane, .province vice presi
dent, was a visitor. She gave a
talk. Ea'rlier in the day, .Mrs. Ross
had been entertained at luncheon
by the alumnae advisory board
and in 'the early evening was
guest at dinner at the active chap
ter on the Willamette university
campus.
Announcement was made that
Mrs. Paul Hansen of Louisville,
Kentucky national extension di
rector, will visit Salem on March
2 and 3.
Reports showed the local alum
nae realized $200 from their rum
mage sale of last weekend, and
$200 from the recent benefit tea
and sale of articles made at the
Pi Beta Phi settlement school.
Mrs. James Todd was welcomed
as a new member of the alumnae
group.
Alpha Chis Dine
Alpha Chi Omega alumnae met
at the home of Mrs. William L.
Phillips for a no-host dinner. Spe
cial guests were two patronesses,
Mrs. Roy L. Houck, Sr. and Mrs.
Fred H. Thompson. -New otficcrs
were installed, Mrs. Richard Taw
as president.
Mrs. Richard Hill, Mrs. George
Seymour, Mrs. Glen Sorensen and
Mrs. Lloyd Griffiths were on the
.committee with Mrs. Phillips to
arrange the dinner.
Plans were made for the March
meeting when tlie program will
feature philanthropies. Also a
rummage sale is planned for the
spring.

the millrace benefit dance. The I
Senior class dispensed with the
usual Senior Ball, an annual all
campus formal dance sponsored by
the seniors, to give a benefit for
the restoration of the millrace. The
seniors have also donated their en
tire class treasury to this purpose.

heart on the Oregon campus in
1953-54, was one of the honored
guests this last Saturday night in
Portland, where she attended the
annual Sweetheart Ball of Sigma
Chi. Jeannine Grabcr of Willamette
university was also at the dance.
Bill Cook is chief engineer of the
"Fishbowl Show," presented over
radio station KWAX, and featuring
"casy-to-Iisten-to music" and inter
views. This last week, the show
was broadcast live from the Stu
dent Union on Wednesday at 8:30
p.m.
! Bill Mainwaring has just been
elected vice president of Sigma Chi
! fraternity. That gives Salem one
president, one vice president, and
one acting-president so far this
year; Julie Miller, being the newly
elected president ot Pi Beta Phi;
Mainwaring, the veep of Sigma
Chi; and Marcia Webb, who has
been the acting-president of Gam
ma Phi Beta this term.
