. SAN FRANCISCO (UP) All
of the basketball played in the
Pacific Coast Conference last
night took place in Washington
or Oregon, but the only Lslllnr-
nia team to venture into the
area discovered the Northerners
can come up with a fair to mid-
dim game of ball.
The Stanford Indians, sport
ing the best all-games record in
the FCC, strutted up to Corvallis
and flashed their 10-1 mark in
the eyes of the Oregon State Bea
vers. The Beavers, witn a rec
ord of only four wins in 14
games, shrugged their shoulders
and plastered the Indians 69-59.
it Elsewhere, results came in as
expected. The Washington Hus
kies blocked Washington State
62-42, and Oregon trampled Idaho
84-76. The results made some
changes in the standings, but the
first three teams held their
places. Prior to last night s games
the four California teams held
the four top spots, but Washing
ton and Oregon moved ahead of
the University of California on
the strength of their victories.
Present standings with confer
ence records are: UCLA 4-0, USC
3-1, Stanford 3-2, Washington
2-1, Oregon 2-1, California 2-2,
Oregon State 2-3, Washington
State 1-4, and Idaho us.
State Takes Lead
The Stanford team, ranked 17th
in the nation, nem its own
against the surprising Beavers
through the early minutes, but
Oregon State pushed out to take
a 32-26 half-time mragin and then
coasted to the victory.
Dave Gambee, 6-foot, T-inch
Oregon State forward, hit for 22
points to lead both clubs in the
scoring column. Forward Bill
Bond topped the Indians with 14.
Washington put a tight defense
on Washington State and walked
away with their victory. A crowd
of 8500 fans saw big Bruno Boin,
6-8 center, lead Washington's at
tack with 22 points. High for
the losers was forward Larry
Beck with 14.
Idaho took a seven-point ad
vantage over Oregon before he
Duck sharpshooters found the
target, but then Idaho's hopes of
winning its first conference game
of the season vanished.
The Ducks had four heavy
scorers. Center Max Anderson
hit for 22, forward Chuck Frank
lin added 21, forward Jerry Ross,
tallied 18 and forward Bill
Moore had IS. High point man
for Idaho was forward Jack Mit
chell with 21. USC, UCLA and
California were idle. ,
