Sslem firemen, hoping for their sixth consecutive year of
lowering the city's fire alafms, have posted this sign in front
of the main fire union to remind citizens that their careful
ness csn help set that record. Fire Chfef E. L. Smith, left, and
Captain Don Morley look over the record that shows fires have
been reduced esch year since 19S0, when there were 576
alarms. Last year the number was down to 430. This year
is running slightly ahead of last year in number of alajms to
date, but December of 1954 was an extra heavy month for
alarms. If alarms for the reftiainder of this month can be kept
below 30, the five-year-record can be kept intaot, Chief Smith
pointed out.
