that they planned to marry in Jan
uary. Police said a note was found
near the child's body in the shed

Gilmore of Molalla, a rdal "friend
of the library." Gilmore, a local
timberman, found these three
books exceedingly fascinating
and well written, with many in
teresting large-sized protographs.
Local folks are invited to spend
an hour or so in (he quiet read
ing room, going through these
new books. Lumber workers,
perhaps with spare time these
days, will find much of interest
and are invited to visit the well
lighted library.

GETTYSBURG. Pa. on-After a
rousing reception for President Ei
senhower, the citizens of Gettys
burg have settled once more into
the "business as usual" attitude
they have maintained toward the
President since he purchased his
farm here.
Satisfied by the hale appearance
of the President at the official re
ception. Gettysburgians seem de
termined to permit him the pri
vacy he needs to continue his
march b'-tk to good health. As a
result, when the President comes
down to his office in the Gettys
burg post office, little knots of peo
ple gather discreetly on the street
to view the proceedings, .tarely
are there more than twenty or
thirty townspeople in the area.
There is, however, an air of ex
citement in this battlefield town.

racial barriers in its military service.
A group of 15 Negro officers who
formerly served in the Maryland
Guard recently announced plans to
ask a Federal District Court rul
ing against Guard segregation.
The Negroes said they were in
tegrated with regular Army units
while serving in Korea but pre-
lerred to remain on inactive duty
upon returning home rather than
rejoin segregated Guard outfits.
McKeldin s directive said. "The
