Past Heads
Chadwick chapter. Order of East
ern Star, met Tuesday night at
(he Masonic temple.
The chapter honored all past
matron! and patrons. Honored in
the east was Mrs. Fred Keller,
who served in 147; representing
all past matrons. Also honored in
the east was H. R. Robinson, who
served as patron in 1947, and rep
resented all past patrons at the
meeting. AU past matrons and
patrons were introduced and pre
sented with a gift.

Pineapple Chiffon Pie
Ingredients: 1 envelope unfav
ored gelatin, V, cup water, 3 egg
yolks, 4 cup sugar, Vt teaspoon
salt, V cup pineapple juice
(drained from canned crushed
pineapple), Vj cup water, 1 tea
spoon lemon rind, '? cup nonfat
dry milk powder, "z cup water,
1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 cup
crushed pineapple (well drain
ed),, chilled graham cracker
crumb crust.
Method: Soften gelatin in V,
cup water. Let stand S minutes.
Put egg yolks, sugar and salt in
top of double boiler; beat until
well blended. Cook and stir con
stantly over hot, not boiling water
until smooth. Combine pineap
ple juice, Vz cup water, and lemon
rind. Gradually add to egg mix
ture. Continue to cook and stir
constantly, until mixture has
thickened slightly. Add gelatin;
stir until dissolved. Remove irom
heat. Chill mixture just until it
begins to set Combine Vt cup
water and lemon juice. Sprinkle
nonfat dry milk over surface of
water; beat with a rotary beater
or electric mixer until stiff,
about S to 10 minutes. Fold
whipped nonfat dry milk and
crushed pineapple into gelatin
mixture. Pour into chilled crumb
crust. Chill until firm, about 2
hours.
Note: A No. 2 ran nf crushed
pineapple will yield enough fruit
and syrup for this recipe, with
some left over.

Honored by Group
A program planned especially
for the entertainment of past
presidents of Capital unit of the
American Legion auxiliary was
presented by the unit Monday
evening at t h e Salem Woman's
club house. Ronnie Potts played
several numbers on the piano. As
gifts of miniature handkerchief
umbrellas were being distributed
to each of t h e honored guests,
Mrs. David H. Cameron sang a
group of songs accompanied by
Mrs. Earl Andresen. Many of the
past presidents told interesting
highlights of their year in office.
Mrs. Emily Bauer of Independ
ence was a guest.
Mrs. T. J. Brabec president,
conducted the short business
meeting during which Mrs. Lucas
Vogt, poppy poster chairman an
nounced the winners of the poppy
poster cash awards which are
given by the unit each year.
Class 1 winners, consisting of pu
pils in the 4th. sth and 6th grades,
were Gary Dill, Englewood, So;
Beth Goodman. Englewood, $3;
Patricia Ann Kelsh, St. Joseph's,
$1. Class 1 pupils winning hon
orable mention were Sharon
Kreiger, Sylvia Smith, Dean Hud
son, Jim Callahan, Julie Repine.
Linda Bleckert, all of Englewood
school and Ann Shryrock of St
Joseph's. In class 2. Conrad
Weathers and Norman DeHut re
ceived honorable mention.
Judges for the contest were
Miss Antoinette Kutmanich, Ron
ald Swanson and Don Bunse.
Serving as co-chairman with Mrs.
Lucas was Mrs. James Delaney,
Salem unit No. 136.
A social hour followed the busi
ness session, during which Mrs.
T. J. Brabec and Mrs. Glenn Hoi-
man presided at the tea table.
Mrs. Rose Habernacht, assisted
by her committee members had
charge of refreshments. -
Mrs. Jennie BartleU announced
there will be no meeting of past
presidents in April, as planned.
Honored guests at the next reg
ular meeting of the unit on May
2 will be Gold Star and American
War mothers.
