Loses License
Th State Department of Ajtrl
etilture Wednesday Issued its third
notice in a month that it proposes
to revoke a business license. Ar
thur Lewin, doing business as the
Stayton Auction Market at Stayton,
f ot this one.
The department claims that Le
win has not cleaned and disinfect
ed dairy cattle and hog pens or
alleyways in his auction sales yard.
It also says he has not kept dairy
cattle and hogs in separate pens,
as required by the state law (or
health reasons.
Finally, the notice to Lewin
aays, he has held and detained ani
mals not diseased in quarantine
pens (not to be contused with seg
regation pens).
Lewin will have an opportunity
to convince the state that he
should keep his license at hear
ing Tuesday, May 4, at :30 a.m.
at the Department of Agriculture
offices in Salem. M. E. Knicker
bocker, chief of the division of
animal induslry, will hear the matter.
Mrs. Campbell Dies
After Year's Illness
Mrs. Margaret Estella Camp
bell, who had been ill for the last
year, died at her home at 1330
North 18th Street Tuesday.
A resident of Salem since 1819,
Mrs. Campbell was born July 18,
IRfifl, at New Sharon, Iowa, the
rioughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Latcham. She was married in
September, 1892, at Oskaloosa,
Iowa, to George M. Campbell who
preceded her in death in 1942.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of
Harmony Rebekah lodge and
a member of the Royal Neigh
bors for the past 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Pauline Sundin of Salem; a
sister, brother, John Durham of
Tacoma; five grandchildren and
aeven great grandchildren.

George W. Lewis
DALLAS George Washington
Lewis, 82, retired dairyman, died
in a Dallas nursing borne Mon
day. Mr. Lewis was born in North
Carolina March 5, 1872.
Surviving are four daughters,
Mrs. Opal Smith, Yakima, Wash.;
Mrs. Laura Noble, Wenatchee;
Mrs. Mabel Chronic, Kent,
Wash.; Mrs. Thelroa Howell, St
Helens; a son, Andrew Lewis,
Roseburg; and nine grandchil
dren.
Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at
Bollman's Funeral Chapel. Burial
was in Falls City cemetery.
Mr. Lewis lived in the Black
Rock district for 40 years and
had lived at Dallas for one year.
