Huskies dt SC, Pocks at Idaho in: Hot Cage Series
Outcome Is
Important
To Leaders
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Oregon State and Oregon, dead
locked atop Northern Division
basketball standings, take on
Washington's Huskies and the Ida
ho Vandals this weekend for what
could be the most important set
ef games of the season for the
two leaders.
Oregon State, picked by many
s the probable league champion,
will be host to the Huskies Fri
day and Saturday nights at Cor
vallis, while Oregon plays Idaho
t Moscow. '"
On paper, the two Oregon teams
rate as easy winners over the
iophomores from Washington and
the slipping Vandals and the week
end is expected to set the stage
for .. a headon collision for the
Championship later this month.
But Coach Tippy Dye's Husk
ies have won three straight after
dropping 14 of 15. and in their last
meeting with OSC put the stopper
on the Beavers' high i c o r i n g
bwene Halb.-ook.
Idaho, tagged as a strong pen
nant contender until the double
loss to Washington last week, will
be making a last desperate bid to
get back in the race. The Vandals
also will be playing on their home
court.
Both Washington and Idaho trail
the leaders by three games going
Into the series. '
Last place Washington State will
be idle this weekend. The Cougars
will return to action Tuesday,
