Pioneer Program
The feature of the Friday 2 o'clock meet
ing of the Salem Woman's club at the club
house will be a program on noted pioneer
women of Oregon. Miss Eleanor Stephens,
state librarian, wrote the script.
Club members portraying Oregon pioneers
will include Miss Antoinette White, Madam
Dorian; Mrs. Floyd White, Narcissus Whit
man; Mrs. Merle D. Travis, Eliza Spaulding!
Mrs. Clifford Mudd, Chleo White; Mrs. Guy

Mrs. Kelly is in charge of the music for
the afternoon.
The board will meet at 1 p.m.
Laurel guild, Knight Memorial church, will
meet on Wednesday night at the home of
Mrs. Roy Harland, 4125 Rivercrest. Mrs.
Norvall Edwards, Mrs. Bernard Shanks and
Mrs. Lewis Mitchell will be assisting host
esses. Neighbors of Woodcraft will elect officers
and initiate new members on Friday night
at the monthly business meeting of the group.

A large group of Salem women are busy
preparing for the annual midwinter rum
mage sale to be given by Salem General Hos
pital auxiliary next Friday and Saturday,
February 12 and 13, over Grcenbaum's.
All proceeds go to the auxiliary funds to
help in buying equipment for the hospital,
the sale being one of the major money-making
projects of the year for the group.
Mrs. Floyd L. Utter and Mrs. John R. Wood
are co-chairmen for the sale.
A benefit for funds to furnish the new
Salem YWCA plant will be the "hillbilly box
social" of the Women's auxiliary, Oregon
Association of Chiropractic Physicians, next
Saturday, February 13.
The party will be at 8 p.m. in the Four
Corners Community hall.

Dance to be Friday
A white elephant sale will be featured at
the Thursday night mfceting of the Accent
chapter, Cosmopolitan Associates, Inc. Mrs.
L. E. Watson, 1190 North 24th street will be
the hostess assisted by Mrs. T. W. Goin.
Spring fashion show planned by Salem Spin
sters club has been set for March 27, the
event previously having been announced for
early April.
Mrs. Howard Mader is general chairman
for the event.
Proceeds from the show will go to the
club's project for the state school for the
blind.
The dinner meeting of the Christian
Business and Professional Women will be
Tuesday, at 6:15 p.m. at the Marion hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Turnidge, pastors at
Crawfordsville, will be the speakers. All
women are invited. Reservations are to be

Mrs. Everett W. Hunter has left for New
York City preparatory to sailing for Europe
to join her husband, Everett W. Hunter, war
rant officer (jg), who is with the 12th Air
Force at Landstuhl, Germany. He has been
there since November.
A Lincoln's day tca is being planned by
Barbara Frictchie tent, Daughters of Union
Veterans, on Tuesday at the Woman's club
house between 2 and 4:30 o'clock.

Hi-Y Chapters' Annual Sweetheart
Formal to be Next Friday Evening
A highlight event for the high school
group is the annual Hi-Y Sweetheart formal
ball set for next Friday evening, February
12, at Crystal Gardens. Dancing will be be
tween 9 and 12 o'clock with Harry Wcsely'i
orchestra playing.
Named during the evening will be the
Hi-Y Sweetheart for the year. The candi
dates in the running for the honor, all

tion of Parliamentarians will meet on Wed
nesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Credit Bureau

KP. Marshall will be chairman of a parlia
mentary drill.
The YWCA board plans to meet at the
YWCA on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. Mrs. Carlton

A panel discussion on work of precinct
committeemen and women will feature the
meeting of Salem unit, Oregon Federation
of Republican Women, Monday, at 2 p.m. in
the Senator hotel.

meeting of the Bush school Mothers club on
Tuesday. The fourth grade mothers will be

Advance night is planned for the Wednes
day night meeting of Cherry court, Order of '
the Amaranth, at the Scottish Rite temple.

will be royal matron and patron for the eve
