Thursday. February 4. 195f May 15 Armed Forces Day , May IS was announced as the dale for Armed Forces Day in 1954, when Secretary of Defense Charles E. Wilson this week an nounced preliminary plans for the nation's observance of that event. "Power for Peace" is to be the slogan for the day, which is devot ed to honoring men and women of the Armed forces and programs will be designed to give the public Deiier uiiuersumuing 01 me per- sonncl, equipment and working re-1 lationship of the Armed Services, 1 National Ounrd and the Reserves. Open houses at military and naval installations, educational ex hibits, demonstrations, air shows. drills, parades, award ceremonies, vessels in port and other special events will all be a part of the programs planned for the observ ance throughout the nation and wherever Americans are stationed. Rear Adm. Berlram J. Rodgers, commandant of the 12th Naval dis trict, San Francisco, has been des ignated as the military man to co ordinate the observance of Armed Forces Day observances in the eight Western States. At a later date names of the military men heading state groups planning for the event will be announced and the state chairman will name chairmen in local areas.
