OREGON STATE COLLEGE,
Corvallis (Special) The snow may
be gone, but the students here are
snowed under witn worn.. Mid
term week is here with a bang and
everyone is studying hard. There
I has been a controversy on the cam
pus about the fall term grades.
One out of every 5 or 20 percent
of the student body is on scholastic
' probation, as the all campus
grades took a decided drop last
term. For this reason studying
seems even more important in this
short 11 week term,
t ; Despite the low grades on cam
It I dus. the freshmen have managed
to make house grades for initiation.
The Delta Delta Deltas, national
social sorority, initiated this past
week. Salemites becoming new
members in this house are Betty
Zahara, Nan Steele and Nancy
Moorcfield. Phi Delta Theta, na
tional social fraternity, recently
! initiated the following Salem men:
John Burroughs, Jim Folston and
John Perry.
Last week-end proved quite suc
cessful for the "Beavers." Although
the oaskelallD team had to settle
for a split with Oregon, the OSC
wrestling tqam took a clean sweep
as did the women's bowling team.
Salemites on the bowling team were
Jo Stcttler and Alice Lehman.
"The "Mother Goose Midway,"
AWS carnival, proved a huge suc
cess last Friday night. Alpha Omi
cron Pi won the booth honors with
the theme, "The Spiders's Web."
Arlen White won first prize in the
tall tale contest and Carl Holm
Quist of Salem took second place.
Dick Meyer, another Salemite, was
master of ceremonies for the eve
ning. Last night, 33 juniors received
honor certificates for excellent
work in their first two years in col-
lege. Those honored had maintain
ed a 3.5 grade point average for
two full years of college work. Sa
lemites in this group were Marj
orie Church and Rodney Jipp.
Twenty-eight varsity lettermen
were recently initiated into Varsity
"0" club. Jim Rock of Salem was
among the football letter winners
initiated.
Try as they may, the Joneses on
this campus just can't keep up.
The statement conies about from
a recent name count here at the
college. The Johnsons tied the
Smiths with 44 each, but the Jones
are running third and can't seem
to keep up for they only have 27.
