Honey Can Be used
In Variety of Ways
Bees and honey-making are vital
to our agriculture and we are urg
ed to use more honey to keep more
bees in business to help pollenize
many garden and all orchard
crops. Honey may be used, meas
ure for measure in place of the
sugar In preparing puddings, cus
tards, pie fillings, baker apples,
candied and sweet-sour vegetables,
; salad dressings and cinnamon
toast.
Brushed or drizzled on ham dur
ing the last half hour of baking,
honey adds flavor and gives a
golden glaze.
In cakes and cookies, however,
you'll get best results if you use
recipes developed especially with
honey as an ingredient.
Use mild-flavored honey lor
bland dishes. Honeys with strong
er flavor may be used in spice
cake, gingerbread, brownies and
In other rather highly flavored
products. For accurate measure-
ment, be sure to scrape all the
honey out of the measure.
Breakfast Bacon
Cook bacon over low heat until
of the desired crispness. There's
no need to pour off the fat during
cooking. Always drain bacon on
absorbent paper.
Breakfast Treat
It may never have occurred to
you but avocados are delicious
for breakfast too. Serve mashed
avocado on toast or dice the
fruit and add to scrambled eggs
when they are almost cooked
but (till soft and creamy.
For Muffins
Next time you make Sunday
supper muffins, add 1 cup of
chopped, canned apple slices
(drained) to the batter. Really
delicious, especially when served
hot with plenty of butter or margarine.
