Wednesday results: At Oregon M.
Washington State 74.
Friday and Saturday WSC plays
Oregon State at Corvallis. With
Idaho favored over last place
Washington in games at Seattle
the same nights, a WSC-OSC split
would further scramble the race
for division honors.
The Cougars, humbled 66-51 in
the series opener here Thursday,
had things their own way for most
of Wednesday night's fracas "and
gheld a 15-point margin in the
third quarter. The Ducks, led by
Barney Holland, their only con
sistent scorer, caught fire late in
the final period but the rally came
too late.
Barney took scoring honors with
32 points, including eight straight
free throws, for a school record
in a conference game. Bob Swen-
son was high for WSC with 14.

Clinchless Fight
Taken by Troy
DETROIT Wl How's this for
a boxing eddity, a clinchless fight.
It happened Wednesday night at
Olympia Stadium where smart
Willie Troy, 159 , Washington,
D.C., secured his position as sev
enth ranking middleweight by
k n o c k ing out Detroiter Moses
Ward, 161, at 2:42 of the eighth
round.
Referee Lou Jallos never had
an easier time of it. Not once did
he have to step between the two
fighters.
Jallos' hardest assignment was
tolling ten over Ward's limp body
and then trying to haul hirp to his
feet.
A left and right put Ward down
for Eood but he was a victim of
exhaustion more than anything
else. He. simply punched himself

Tally Tops
Northwest
By JACK HEWINS
Associated Press Sports Writer
Along about this time last year
Johnny O'Brien had scored 571
points over a 21-game span and
nobody is about to match in 1954,
but one of his Seattle University
basketball teammates is doing his
best to carry the O'Brien cudgel.
Angular Joe Pehanick was more
than 100 points shy of O'Brien's
pace this week, but his total of 466
for 21 games put him on top of the
field in the race for scoring honors
in the Pacific Northwest.
Helped by playing four games
last week while his chief opponent
got in only a pair, Pehanick moved
around Wade Halbrook of Oregon
State by 51 points. Big Joe may
need the cushion, as he injured his
leg this week and scored only
eight points against Pacific Luth
eran Tuesday night.
R. C. Owens of college of Idaho
padded his total with 46 points
against Gonzaga last week and
jumped from fifth to third. Jerry
Vermillion of Gonzaga, who is
leading the field on a basis of per
game average, retained fourth
place in total points.
Vermillion faded a bit jn the
College of Idaho series but his
average of 23.8 keep shi min front,
with don Porter of Portland State
at his heels with a 23.4 average.
Porter ranks fifth in total score,
with 351 points in 15 games.
Jackie May of St. Martin's
dropped from third to sixth and is
followed in the Big Ten by Ron
Bennink of WSC, ick DEdwards of
Eastern Washington, Stan Glow
aski of Seattle U. and Dave San
ford of Linfield. No report was
received this week on Leon Keefe
of Southern Oregon, who ranked
eighth a week ago.
