    Cadmus of Turner Will
Manage Fat Lamb Show
By CLAUDE
George Cadmus, Turner sheep
man, was elected manager of the
1954 Marion Countv Fat I. m h
Show at the annual meeting of
i ne snow association new Thurs
day night at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Karl B. Wippcr, Turner.
Cadmus was nominated by
Henry Ahrens, who has managed
the event for 16 years and wished
to retire. Ahrftis was commend
ed by the board for his splendid
work in originating the show and
developing it to its present status
as the finest in Oregon.
Wipper was re-elected as presi
dent of the association. Florence
Jarman was again selected as secretary-treasurer.
Louie Hcnnies,
Sam Dragcr and M. 0. Pearson
were re-elected to the board of
directors.
As a move to encourage great
er participation by small flock
owners, two new classes for fat
ewe and wether lambs owned by
persons exhibiting for the first
time will be featured at this
year's show. Premium money will
be provided by dropping the
classes for purebred pens , of
lambs in open classes.
Cadmus, who operates a 400
acre sheep farm in Cloverdale
district and formerly was sheep
specialist at Oregon State col
lege, said this change followed
the wishes of Karl Steiwer, long
time board member who was un
able to attend last night's meet
ing due to illness.
Held annually the first Satur
day in June, the show was started
in 1938 by a group of Turner
Briedwell Hit by
Storm Aftermath
AMITY Results- of recent
storms still are being felt in the
' Briedwell district a mile west of
Amity. Telephone and power out
ages have been frequent.
Monday night a sagging power
wire, laden with snow, caught on
a freight train breaking a number
of connections at the substation
putting it out of commission for
some time.
In Amity Mrs. A. E. Broadwell
was without heat or lights for some
time because of a flooded furnace
and a power outage.
