With UO
Awaited
By ALICE LEHMAN
(Capital Journal Correspondent)
. OUKGON STATE COLLEGE,
Corvallis (Special Snow and rain
have put quite a damper on activi
ties here at Oregon State. The
new type of extra curriculnr activ
ities which seem to be the most
popular is snowball fights. Some
ot them became such battles that
several fraternities are now being
faced with fines. All in all the
weather is providing a very excit
ing winter term.
The crucial basketball scries
with the University of Oregon is
on the agenda for this coming
week-end. Friday ni.ht the game
will be in Gill Coliseum and the
Saturday night game will be play
ed at McArthur court in Eugene.
We're all hoping to sweep the
scries, but only time will tell.
Friday night following the game,
here, in Corvallis, the Associated
Women Students are sponsoring a
carnival to be in the armory. Car
nival Booths of all types will be
set up and run by the various
women's living groups. The ttile
of the carnival is "Mother Goose
Midway" and all booths will be
decorated accordingly. Special
prizes will be given and the men
may compete in the tall tale con
test. All prizes have been donated
by Corvallis and Portland mer
chants. . Alpha Sigma Phi, national so
cial fraternity, recently elected
officers for the coming year: Bob
JUihlo of Salem was elected asso
ciate editor. Among initiations
these past few weeks has been that
for the Alpha Phis, Initiated into
this sorority was Beverly Mott, Sa
lem. Plans are under way for the
forthcoming Dad's Week-end which
will be February 12 and 13. To
morrow's' Barometer, a student
newspaper, will be a special issue
for dads. It will tell all about the
games, luncheon and other details
of the week-end. Students are be
ing urged to send copies of these
to their, fathers, so OSC dads, if
you don't get one soon write your
son or daughter and ask for one,
