Doctor and
Injured in Collision
A Salem doctor and two daugh
tera suffered serioua injuries in
the collision of a train and two
cart at the Center Street cross
ing ot the Southern Pacific rail
road tracks on 12th street Sun
day morning while four persons
in the other car escaped unhurt
Four members of the Paul A.
Morin family, 775 Clarman street,
escaped injury when their car
was knocked off the tracks by tue
car of Dr. John Bower, 40, a psy
chiatrist at Oregon State hospi
tal, after it was hit by the train.
Dr. Bower and his two daughters,
Bosemary Ann, 16, and Margaret
Adrian, 15, were taken to Salem
General hospital Dr. Bower was
listed in fair condition Monday
and the girls in good condition.
City police said the accident oc
curred as the two cars were head
ing east on Center street with the
Morin car to the left and slightly
ahead of the Bower car. Both
drivers told officers they failed to
see the 90-car freight train ap
proaching from the south until
they were in the intersection. Dr.
Bower tried to stop and Morin at
tempted to get across the tracks,
they said.
The train engine struck the Bow
er car near the right front door
post, knockng it around in such a
way that it struck the rear of -the
Morin car, which in turn was
knocked clear of the tracks. The
Bower car was carried on down
the tracks for about 50 feet before
the train came to a stop.
Engineer J. Dewitt Hamel, Port
land, told officers he did not see
the cars until Fireman James A,
McClain, Portland, yelled "Look
out." Then he "dynamited" the

in the stock market.
Most major divisions of the mar
ket were mixed, and price changes
spread over a range of between 1
and 2 points either way.
Most of the time the market was
higher on balance, but the inclina
tion in that direction never was
pronounced.
Trading was brisk during the
rising phases of the session, and it
turned quiet when prices stabilized
or retreated. Total for the day
came to an estimated 1,800,000
shares as compared with 1,890.000
shares traded Friday. '

LEBANON Claude E. Moore,
65, resident of Crablrce, died at
the Veterans hospital in Port
land Saturday, Jan. 23. He had
formerly been a resident of West
Salem for about 35 years.
Survivors include Hie widow,
Nellie M. Moore; a brother, Del
bert Moore of Astoria; two aunts,
Mrs. Lila Moore and Mrs. John
Mercer, both of Portland; and
an uncle, Henry Moore of Hub
bard. Funeral services will be held
at the Huston funeral parlors,

with burial in the Dallas ceme
