Woman's Club
Salem Woman's club has arranged a sp
dal event ior next Friday evening, Jan

Town and Gown Club Tea Thursday
Among events of special interest for next
week will be the Town and Gown club's
January program and tea on Thursday
afternoon, in the Carrier room of the First
Methodist church. The meeting is to be at
2 o'clock, Mrs. George H. Swift presiding.
The program will include a monologue
with musical interlude, "Life Is What We
Arc Alive To," a reading by Mrs. Brooks H.
Moore, solos by Betty Starr Anderson with
Mrs. Ralph H. Dobbs accompanying.
The Jaycce-Ettcs are planning a dinner
dance to install the 1954 officers on Satur
day, January 30 at the Blue Note with a
social hour preceding the dinner.
Mrs. Maurice Cohn Is the new president
of the group and will be assisted by Mrs.
Ernest Royse, vice-president: Mrs. Loren
Boston, secretary and Mrs. Dee Whitlock,
treasurer. Mrs. Blaine Cline is the outgoing
president.

Next fashion show at the Marion hotel
will come on Tuesday, February 2, when
Johnson's will present a preview of early
spring fashions. The luncheon will be at
12 o'clock that day, the show at 1 o'clock.
Luncheon group of Ainsworth chapter,
Order of Eastern Star, is meeting Thurs
day at noon at the Masonic temple. Mrs.
Frank Brown is in charge of the refresh
ments. Mrs. John Versteeg will be speaker
on winter decorations for the home.
Mrs. M. D. Looncy and Miss Eleanor
Looncy, 520 N. 22nd street will be hostesses
to the Dabblers club on Thursday niRht.
Mrs. Jack Hcnningsen will demonstrate
candle making.
Mrs. James Hartley will be installed as
the president of the Salem Navy Mothers
club on Tucsdav night at the home of Mrs.

The Royal Neighbors of America camp of
Salem entertained the Labish camp at their
meeting on Wednesday night with the 1954
officers for both installed by Mrs. Mable

Arriving this week-end for a visit at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Parker are their

State Senator and Mrs. George A. Ulett
of Coquille are in the capital for the week
end. Planned for February S is the carnival nf

the benefit affair to be in the new church.
The event opens at 6 p.m., a supper to be
served for those wishing to come for the
supper with their families. Games, movies,
and booths for carnival fun and candy items
will be featured during the evening.
Mrs. Ed Lewis is general chairman, Mrs.

ing on the directorate. Mrs. Charles Mills
is president of the guild.
WOODBURN The wedding of Miss Char
lone Larwese Miller and Leslie Perry Glass,
both of Woodburn, was an event of January
3 at the Woodburn Assembly of God church.
The Riv. J. L. Gibson, former pastor of the
church, now at Gresham, officiated at the 2
p.m. double ring ceremony. Miss Miller is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd W. Mil
ler, and Mr. Glass is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Perle P. Glass, all of Woodburn.
Mr. Miller gave his daughter in marringe.
She wore a light blue suit with a white orchid
with white streamers. Attendants were Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Miller of Woodburn.
A reception at the home of the bride's
parents followed the ceremony after which
the couple left for a wedding trip to Phoenix,
Arizona. They are now at home in Wood
burn. on Tuesday

Annual Mothers March for Polio
Set for Thursday Evening in Salem
"Light the Way to Victory" is the slogan
for the annual Mothers March on Polio,
scheduled tor next Thursday, January 28.
a The march will be conducted by four large
'groups of women in four Salem areas be
tween 7 and 8 p.m. A horn brigade will
precede them through all parts of the city
at 6:45 p.m. as a reminder that a porchlight
means a willingness to give.
Mrs. Robert White, who heads the Mothers
March in Salem, reports virtually every dis
trict in the city will be visited, including also
Four Corners, Kelzer and Liberty. Other
communities in Marion county are staging
their own drives. West Salem, under the
direction of Mrs. Chester Douglas and Mrs.
William Wilson, will stage their own march
that night, funds going to the Polk county
polio group.
Assisting Mrs. White bt co-chairman in
lining up the details for the Mothers March
has been Mrs. William Crothers.
The four colonels are: Mrs. Keith Dyer,
North Salem; Mrs. Maurice H. Saffron, South
Salem; Mrs. Don Doerfler, Four Corners;
