stenberg and Gig Young will appear in a scene from the Broadway
comedy, "Oh Men! Oh Women!" Other headliners, previously an

9:00 p.m., Fred Waring Show In a musical tribute to several
lale composer friends, Fred Waring will feature songs of George
Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Dick Whiting, Peter de Rose, Gus Kahn,
and Fred Ahlcrt on the "Fred Waring Show."
9:30 p.m., Man Behind the Badge A double cross by two pals
ends an attempt by the son of a leader of the old notorious Purple
Gang to revive the protection racket, in "The Detroit Story." The
story is based on records from the files of Inspector Joseph Krug
of the Detroit police's Flying Squad.
10:00 p.m., The Web Henry Hull portrays an old prospector
who outwits a crafty pair after his gold, and, in the process,
restores a wayward youth's faith in humanity, in "The Well."

Drum Majorette contest

School, and the third to Mary
Wait of Salem High School.
It was the 15th annual Drum
Majorette contest sponsored by
the Salem Elk Lodge and was
held at Salem High School gym
nasium. The board of judges was head
ed by Charles Steele of Cottage
Grove, and other judges were of
ficials of the lodge. The contest
ants were under the direction of
Vernon Wiscarson. Music for the
event was played by the Salem
iiign School band.
The Drum Majorette contest is
one of the best atractions among
annual events in Salem and drew
the usual Urge crowd of specta
tors JTinay night.

sociation members move into Sa
lem Monday for - their three-day
annual meeting at the Senator
hotel. It will be the largest live
stock gathering of the year in the
Willamette valley, with 250 per
sons expected.
Formal sessions start at 1 p.m.
with words of welcome by Mayor
Al Loucks. Roger Dumdi, Mc
Minnville stockman, president of
the association, is to follow with
his address. Seven standing com
mittees and several special groups
will conduct deliberations during
the afternoon.
The Monday evening program
at 7:30 is built around a lamb
cutting demonstration by Miles
Tencyeck, Portland marketman.
The finished specimens of Ten
eyeck's knife artistry will be dis
tributed to the audience.
Tuesday business sessions will
feature three panel discussions.
At 10 a.m., E. L. Potter of Cor-
vallis will lead the livestock mar
keting group. Panel members in
clude: Prosscr Clark, commission
man; Ed Coles, marketing spec
ialist: D. W. Chambers, packer;
Earl Drury, swine grower; Harry

Nolle Bell Hyder
SHERIDAN Funeral services
were held this week at the Sheri
dan Funeral home for Nolie Bell
Hyder, 75, who died in Sheridan.
Interment was in Green Crest
Memorial park.
Mrs. Hyder was born in John
son City, Tcnn., March 12, 1878,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John Street. In June, 1900, she
married John Hyder in Tennes
see, and they later moved to
Sheridan. She was a member of
the Christian church.
Survivors are her husband
John of Sheridan; two daughters,
Oda C. Mombert of Sweet Home
and Emma Pollock of Sheridan;
three sons, Robert, Luther and
Edgar Hyder, all of Sheridan; 16
grandchildren and 14 great
grandchildren. Lee Albert James
LEBANON Lee Albert James,
68, a retired grocer, died Thursday
at his home on route 2. He was
born at Excelsior Springs, Mo.,
Sept. 20, 1885 and came to Lebanon
20 vears ago.
He leaves his widow, Agnes
James Lebanon: sons, Homer
James, Holley, and Lonnie and Jes
se James, both of Pleasant Hill
Mo.; a step son, Ray Johnson of
Sweet Home; U grandchildren and
three great grandchildren.
Services will be announced by
the Huston Funeral home.
Joseph H. Bubb
LEBANON Funeral services for
Joseph H. Bubb, 71. who died Sat
urday at his home on Rt. 2, were
held Jan. 20 at the Huston chapel
with Father Pius Bauer officiating.
Born in Pennsylvania, March 19,
1882, he had operated a farm in the
Tennessee district for the past 29
years.
Surviving are a brother, Harry
Bubb of Pennsylvania and three
sisters, all living out of the state.

phy, 61, died at his home here
Thursday following a heart at
tack. Mass will be held at St
Mary's Catholic church at 10
a.m. Monday, and rosary will be
said at the Fisher Funeral home
at 8:13 p.m. Sunday. Burial will
be in Willamette Memorial park.
Mr. Murphy was born at Old
ham, S. D., and lived in Min
nesota and Brookings, S. D., be
fore coming to Albany in 1043. He
was a veteran of World War I.
He married Aris Turner July 9,
1919, at Brookings, S. D., and
she with two sons survive. The
sons are MSgt. Wayne C.
Murphy, Yokota Air Force Base,
Japan, and Robert J. Murphy,
San Jose, Cal., a brother and
sister also live in the midwest.
Mrs. Margaret Small
ALBANY Mrs. Margaret
Small, 85, who had lived here
since 1948, died Thursday fol
lowing a short illness. Private
family services were held Fri
day at the Salem Crematorium
under direction of the Fisher
Funeral home. She was a native
of Maine. She lived in Maine
until going to Klamath Falls in
1929. Mrs. Small remained in
Klamath Falls until her husband,
Fred O. Small, attorney; died in
1948. She and Mr. Small were
married July 12, 1898 in Massa

of Everhart & Kent, for Mrs.
Kathryn D. Prahl, 80, late resi
dent of the Aurora and Canby
area, who passed away in the
I.O.O.F Rebekah home hospital
in Portland Monday.
Widow of William F. Prahl,
who died Nov. 17, 1931, Mrs.
Prahl, nee, Kathryn Davics, was
born in Fairbault, Minn., Aug. 1,
1873. She was married to Mr.
Prahl in Fairbault in 1908. They
came to Oregon soon after and
occupied a farm in the Union
Hill district near Aurora. Mr.
Prahl helped construct the Ore
gon Electric railway trestle near
their farm and Prahl station,
nearby, bore their name,
Mrs. Prahl was active in Kirk
Rebekah lodge No. 124 and its
Past Noble Grands club since
August 18. 1925.
Burial was in the family plot
in Zion Memorial Park, Canby.
