only where the benefit is paid as
part of a contract. The new pro
posal extends the exemption to out
riRht, sxntancotis gifts which aro
not part of a contract.
Staff authorities said the new
provision would be particularly
helpful in cases where an employ,
wants to help a distressed family,
or reward a particularly faithful
deceased employe, but has not
contracted to pay the same death
benefit to all employes.
