Soldat Finishes
Ross on 'Wolf
Leap' to Neck
The "woll leap." a tactic too

for Soldat Gorky over Salem's
Tony Ross in one of the three
main events at the Armory last
night
Gorky took the second fall with
his infamous jump which ended
1 with a knee in the throat of Ross,
and Ross could not recover for
the third fall. The Salem wrestler
had taken the first fall with kid
ney punches and a backbreaker
slam against the Russian who dis
liked Ross' refereeing last week.
A misplaced kick was respon
sible for the defeat of David Jons
and Johnny Henning in the tag
team match against Toi Yamoto
and Kurt von Poppeheim. The
man with the careless foot was
Henning, who was trying to kick
Yamato from outside the ring.
The Japanese ducked and the
blow landed on Jons, who was
pinned pronto by Yamato.
The first fall went to Von Pop
penheim, who used his sensa
tional crossbow hold on Henning,
and the second fall was a Hcnn-ing-Jons
victory as Jons won from
Yamato.

Hall of Fame Vote Due
NEW YORK 7-Baseball's Hall
of Fame, now numbering 70 mem
bers, is expected to be increased
by two and perhaps as many as
five today when the ballots are
counted in the 14th annual elec
tion. And under a new rule, in effect
for the first time this year, a play
er must have been out of organized
ball at least five years. The only
exception is those who received
more than 100 votes last year
when Dizzy Dean and Al Simmons
were named. Joe DiMaggio, the
New York Yankee Clipper! Bill
Dickey, former catcher and now
coach with the Yankees: and Ted
Lyons, ex Chicago White Sox

Tuesday night. Perrydale now has
a league record of four wins and
no defeats.
Don Miller's Pirates held one
point leads of 1211 and 17-16 at
the first and second quarter stops.
After the score was tied at 19-19,
there was no stopping the Pirates.
The score was 31-23 at the start
of the final stanza.
Larry Massey came through
with 19 points for Perrydale while
his usually high scoring team
mate, Sam Stewart, was being
held to 13. LeRoy Ashwell and

The Bearcats are having a two
week 'layoff from Northwest con
ference battles after setting up a
solid foothold with four straight
victories. Coach John Lewis gave
them a holiday Monday but will
have a short 'practice today and
will scrimmage them Thursday
against the Willamette frosh.
Next game will be with Pacific
at Forest Grove Jan. 30 and the
next home appearance will be
Feb. 5 against Lewis and Clark.
