past year, but that it had been

they would protest, at the bear
ing, withdrawal cf the resolution.
Saturday, however. Linn County
Commissioners Wayne Downing
ana rioya jemt aaid that appar
ently the intent of the first res
olution had been misunderstood.
At the time it waa signed, com
missioners intended to notify the
fcublic housing administratioin,
the tenanta, and the city of Sweet
Home that the county did not
plan to take over the unite and
operate them or offer them for
tale to the highest bidder.
It is believed, they related, that
the tenanti probasly understood
the measure to mean that cont
inued occupancy of the units waa
approved by the county.
To make matters dear, the
commlssionera aaid, the resolution
waa withdrawn and the court de
cided to take no further action
whatever concerning the unite,
thus dumping the matter back
into the laps of the FHA.
The county and the city of
Sweet Home both had been asked
to take over the units, and offer
them for tale. Either of the legis
lative bodies could have done to
under terms of a PHA offer.
B-.th declined the offer, bow
ever, and this probably will force
the FHA to go ahead with the
plan to demolish and remove the
structures after July 1.
The unite were contracted dur
ing the war to ease a housing
shortage. At the time of con
struction it waa determined that
following a suitable period after
the war, the unite would be re
moved from the property, unless
the county or the city exercised
