cup butter or margarine, 1 cup
uncooked rice, 4 cup finely
chopped onion, 1 cup diced

Method: Blanch almonds by ,
covering with water and heat
ing to boiling: drain at once
and slip off skins. Split al
monds in half lengthwise: dry
on towel. Melt butter in 10
Inch skillet that has a tight cov
er. Add almonds, rice and
onion; cook over moderately
low heat, stirring olten, until
rice is browned and onions yel
lowed. Stir tn green pepper,
aalt and water. Bring to vig
orous boil. Turn neat as low
as possible. Cover and leave
over this low heat 20 minutca
or until rice is tender. Uncov
er and stir over low heat a few
minutes. Serve at once. Makes
C servings.

ings for rug making, sent to
the southern Oregon veterans
facilities.
The defense chair
man, Mrs. Frank Roemer, re
ported a U.S. flag bought and
presented to the public school
kindergarten room. On reha
bilitation, Mrs. Olaf Tokstad
reported two pairs of shoes for
children, and 12 dolls dressed
fo. children of deserving fam
ilies. The auxiliary voted to buy
seven U.S. bonds for the VFW
home building fund.

The basic sewing group

Textile painting, always one
of the more popular elasses,
again being offered on Tuesday
evening at 7:30. Mrs. L. C

painting class. Monday at 7:30

six weeks. The Gift Box will
supply the materials needed.
Lampshade making will be
taught by Mrs. Mary Brown.
She will give "tricks of the
trade" as well aa help indi
viduality in designs. Tha class
is scheduled for Tuesday after
noon at 130 odock.
Three alsssss in bridge are
being offered. Two beginning
classes on Thursday . . . the
morning class at 0:30 o'clock
will be taught by Mrs. BJarne
Ericksen, and the evening
class at 7:30 will be instructed
by Mrs. Charles McElhinny.
Mrs. Elmer O. Berg meets with
tha Intermediate class on
Tuesday evening at 7:30. Men
are welcome In these classes.
English classes are offered
to newcomers of this country.
They are designed to help im
prove spoken and written Eng
lish. Beginners are taught by
Mrs. Lloyd Hockett, and the
more sdvanced class is headed
by Mrs. W. S. Ankney. There
no charge lor these classes,
to be Thursday evenings at
15 o'clock.
By calling the YWCA,

register for any class, and
learn about materials needed.
