Year'a Eve suffering bruises and
other complications, due to a
fall. Her mother, Mrs. Lane
Davidson, returned Sunday from
Raymond, Wash., where she had
been visiting her family over
the Christmas holidays, to care
for the Hersha children. i
Mrs. P L. Witchee, Jr., Is now
at home after a week in the
Salem General hospital because
of a severe cold. Mrs. F. L.
Withee has been caring for the
Withee children.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Baker moved
to the Unionvale district during
Christmas vacation, and Mr, and
Mrs. Luther Stacey and family
are occupying the house thev
have vacated.
Mrs. S. C. Waller was ill with
flu this past week.
Rev. and Mm. Carl Pershall
and family returned to their
home in Hamer, Idaho, on Fri
day after a week'a visit with
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lafferty and
other relatives. Mr. Lafferty has
been ill with a aevere cold.
Robert Pearse visited hia cous
ins, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Meyer
of Brownsboro, Ore., near Med
fnrd, for several days this past
week, going by bus. Dean Brown
assisted with the chores In his
absence.
Miss Alleen Allison returned
to El Centre Calif., this week,
after three weeks visit with her

pital with a severe heart attack.
At last reports he is still in the
hospital but improving.
Wayne Hickerson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. L. A. Hickerson. re
turned to Corvallls for the open
ing of the winter term. Jsn. 4.
Robert Janten, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Gust Janicn has enrolled
for the winter term also.
The watch night social at the
Hopewell E.U.B. church was at
tended by about 50 members
and friends. Colored slides were
shown by Howard Stephens, of
mountain saddle trips, and of
South Dakota trips taken by Mrs.
Clarence Legg, of southern states
by Mrs. R. T. Kirid, and of Red
Lodge, Mont., and Yellowstone
Tark by Rev. Glen Har-is. Other
motion pictures also were shown.
Musical numbers were furnished
by Lawrence Thornton, director
of musie of the Englewood h.u
B. church, on the cello and vocal
solos, accompanied by Mrs.
Glen Harris. Refreshments were
served.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wright are
the parents of a daughter, Gayle,
born Dec. 20 at the Salem Gen
eral hoapital. They have two
sons. Mrs. Wright and daughter
are now at home.

Mr. Ward was a native of
Oregon having been born in
Marlon County Jan. 1. 1871.
He is survived by his widow
Lillie Dennis Ward, one daugh
ter. Hazel Ward, Eugene: three
sons, Arthur, Independence;
Elbert of Tillamook, and Ful
ton of California.
Interment was in West Lawn
Memorial cemetery.
George Reed was brought
home from the Bartell hos
pital Thursday afternoon and
is up and around the house.
Mr. Reed was the unhappy
possessor of two appendices
and feels much better since
they were removed.

her sister-in-law, Mrs. Archie
Montgomery of Ocean Lake.

ating satisfactorily following ma
jor surgery.

with the Lloyd Ames children

played and stories were told un
til a late hour.

day, Jan. 4, after the 10-day va

Robert Keyes returned to his
home in Lyle, Wash., after sev
eral days spent in Mill City vis
iting friends. He was met in
Porland by his psrents, who had
brought another son, David, there
to resume studies at Reed Col
lege. One of the firat clubs to resume
meetings after the holiday was
the Mill City Women's club, meet
ing at the Fellowship hall Jan.

Nineties" party; many of the
members dressing in costumes of
that period. Music for the eve
ning was arranged by Mrs. Harry
Mason, chairman, assisted by Mrs.
Sheythe, Mrs. Lee Ross, snd Mrs.

the evening were Mrs. Melbourne

en for the Scholarship Loan Fund,
a project of all Federated Clubs.

Christian Churches held a joint

the Christian church basement
recreation room. Entertainment

the young people of the church.

son, Jack, and Pfc. Bill Engle
man. Both boys were home from
the service for the holidays. At

had been abandoned in the tall
weeds and grass along the river.
