Arthur A. Atherton was guest
speaker at the luncheon and
meeting of Salem club, Daugh
ters of toe Nile, on Monday at
the Masonic temple.
Mr. Atherton is chairman lor
this yesr's March of Dimes cam
paign in Marion county and spoke
on the campaign needs.
Sewing preceded the luncheon

Miss Whitlock Is the daughter
of Charles C. Whitlock of Sher
man, Texas. She is employed at
the First National bank.
Mr. Scneelar is the son of Mrs.
Blanche Scneelar and Lawrence
Scneelar, Sr. of Salem. He is em
ployed with toe Southern Pacific

leaving Wednesday on an In
teresttng trip are Mr. and Mrs.
C. W. Slacey . . . They will take
the Northern Pacific and will
atop first at Milwaukie to
take in the International Mink
show . . . From there they will
go to wew rork city and check
their mink as they go through
auction sales . . . They also plan
to laxe in some special attrac
tions in New York, including the
Metropolitan Opera . . . They
wiU be at the Governor Clinton
botel while there . . From New
York, they will go to Washing
ton, D. C, whera they will buy
a car and drive to Laredo, Tex
as, going through Kentucky and
Tennessee . . . They then plan to
drive to Monterey, Mexico, on
the Pan American highway and
cross over to Durango on the
Central highway, and drive
south and over to the Pacific
highway by way of Guadalajara
. . . They will come home by
way of Arizona and will be here

Haugen residence Sunday eve
ning to honor Pvt. Elmer Hau
gen, who has been home on leave
from the army during the holi
days. He is leaving Wednesdsy
to report to duty at Fort Sill
Okla., having finished basic train
ing at Fort Ord in California.
A buffet supper was enjoyed,

gen, Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmar A.
Haugen, his parents; his fiancee.
