A surprise for friends at
tending a party Sunday after
noon was announcement of the
engagement of Miss Jean Hart
well, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
E. T. Hartwell, to Edward
Knapp, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Gardner Knapp.
The news was told at a party
given by Miss Marjorie Mosolf
at the summer home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. James
Mosolf, on the Santiam. A re
cording was played to reveal
the announcement.

Both young people attended
Salem schools and both are
students at Pomona college,
Miss Hartwell as a sophomore
and Mr. Knapp as a senior.

Michael Patrick Maulding,
younger son of Mr. and Mrs.
John P. Maulding, were Sun
day afternoon at 4 o'clock in
St. Paul's Episcopal church,

baby's grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph H. Cooley, follow
