Liced Sugar Cookies
i cups sifted all-purpose
flour
teaspoons double-acting
baking powder
teaspoon salt
teaspoon ground ginger
teaspoon ground
cinnamon
teaspoon ground cloves
cup butter or margarine

1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
Heat oven to 400 degrees
which is hot. Sift together
first 6 ingredients. Cream to
gether butter or margarine
and sugar. Beat in egg and
milk. Stir in flour mixture.
Roll dough to ' inch thick
ness on very lightly floured
board. Shape with cookie
cutters. Bake on ungreased
cookie sheet 7 to 8 minutes.
Five dozen or so cookies.
Spiced Chocolate Cookies
Omit singer in above re.

Mix 3 squares melted, un
sweetened chocolate with but
ter or margarine when sugar
is added.
To Make Lettering
Make numerals 1 to 12 on
cookies with a stiff chocolate
confectioners' sugar and egg
white icing forced through a
decorator's tube. Use any
left-over icing on other
cookies. Arrange cookies on
a large plate to resemble face
of clock. Make clock hands
from Spiced Chocolate Cookie
Dough. Outline face of clock
with chocolate cookies. As
suggested earlier, we lettered
1-9-5-4 on cookies for pass
ing. After pork chops are brown
ed in hot fat, pour a cup of
marmalade over them and bake
