Homecoming
Dance Listed
Silverton Planned for Wed
nesday evening. December 23,
is the homecoming dance for
the IBM graduating class of
the Silverton senior high
school.
The dance is the sixth annual
affair with guests the former
and present Silverton high
school students. It is to be in
the cafeteria rooms of the sen
ior high school building.
The general co-chairmen are
Miss Shirley Doerfler and Miss
Frances Fox. The theme for
entertainment Is "Winter Won
derland."
Miss Betty Montgomery is
theme chairman; Miss Sharon
Gibbv, chairman of decora
tions; Miss Nancy Peckham,
chairman of publicity; of pro
grams. Miss Mary Ann Wor
nom; of entertainment, Miss
Donna Jackson; invitation, Miss

all the youngsters climaxed the
party.

Mrs. Harvey Scheidel was
named press correspondent
for the Pythian Sisters, Cent
ralis temple No. 11 at Beaver
hall Wednesday night. Mrs.
Scheidel will replace Mrs.
Wavne Stanton, who resigned.
A Christmas party for all
lodge members and their faml
lies followed the business
meeting.
The program consisted of
two readings by Mrs. Laura
Johnson, a piano solo by Miss
Naomi Stanton, a baton dem
onstration by Miss Judy Will-
cox with accompaniment by
Mrs. Desn Duvau, a piano solo
by Miss Dianne Judson! Also
performing was-Mrs. Don Jud
son who sang "Silent Night"
with the children chiming in.
Final number was the skit,
"Visit From SL Nick" present
ed by a group of children with
descriptions read by Mrs. Al
Neiderberger. ' '
Climax of the evening was
the arrival of Santa Claus
through the fireplace chimney.

Smith, passed out Christmas
gifts to all the youngsters. J

during a Christmas meeting at
the Woman's club house Thurs
day night Refreshments were

meeting and Christmas party
was on the agenda Thursday
night for past presidents of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars at
the home of Mrs. Gordon
Bressler.
Assisting Mrs. Bressler were
Mrs. C. M. Briggs and Mrs.
Billy Kelso. Next meeting it
scheduled for January 21 at
the home of Mrs. Mary Champ,
Salem Women Aid
Work at Hospital
Christmas means presents
and presents mean problems at
the Oregon state hospital. The
3200 patients there receive
many more gifts than the per
sonnel of the institution's mail
room csn handle alone. So
again this year, volunteers of
the Red Cross are helping Mrs.
Nsdlne Fargher, the matron,
and her assistant, Mrs. Chris
tine Fiadwood, tn taking care
of the presents.
Each package received at
the hospital must be opened. Its
contents inventoried and uie
sender notified that the pack
age has been received. Then the
package must be re-wrapped
for the ward Christmas trees.
Starting on December 14, the
Red Cross Gray Ladies reeu
lsrly assigned to the hospital
were assigned to the mail room
Instead of the wards and with
the assistance of other volun
teers will work until Decem
ber 23.

Silverton Mrs. Jim Nel
son as hostess and Mrs. Bob
Sites, president, entertained
the members of the Jaycee-
Ettes at the Tuesday meeting
when 22 members and one
guest, Mrs. Clarence BrowneU,
attended.
During the brief buslm
session, directed by Mrs. Sites,
named as centennial co-chair
men were Mrs. Bill Duncan
and Mrs. Philip elites. The
Jeycee-Ettes are general direc
tors of the "Acquscade," to
work with the members of the
Junior Woman's club, in the
swimming snd other water
events to be staged during the
August 4-8, 1954 Silverton
Centennial.
A Christmas food basket for
a worthy family, and a 25c gift
exchange were features of the
program. Refreshments were
served during the social hour.
The next meeting will be on
January 18 at the bom of
Mrs. Bill Duncan - oa Phelps
