Four Corners An event

fire district, is the Christmas
program and tree presented by
the members of the Four Cor
ssri Rural Fire Protection dis
trict and the Auxiliary.
The date is Saturday, De
cember 19 at 2 p.m. in the
Community halt A full length
movie will be shown and Santa
daus will arrive by fir truck.
All children in the fire district
are welcome.

North Howell An execu
tive PTA committee meeting
was held at the Harold Bar-
stch's Monday, December 14.
December 15 the PTA held
its meeting at the school with
a Jitney supper. The school
children sang and a commu
nity sin I of Christmas carols
preceded the reiular meeting.
A basket social was planned
for the January meeting. The
men will furnish the enter
tainment. The North Howell School
Christmas play will be given
in the church December 22. ,
Mrs. Alton Can't Sue
For False Arrest
San Diego, Calif. F Suit
of Mrs. Mary Ellen Alton, wife
of a University of Oregon pro
fessor, for false arrest damages
was ruled out so tar as the city
of San Diego and its police
chief are concerned In superior
court here Thursday.
The court held that the city
and the police chief could not
be held liable tor false arrest
in the case, but left standing
the question whether Chief A.
S. Jansen libeled Mrs. Alton la
a letter to the Eugene, Ore,
police chief.
Mrs. Alton was cleared of the
charge of passing forged checks
by handwriting evidence. Later
another woman was convicted
of the charge.
