Foot Survey
Started Here
The Orecoa State Aisocia-
' tlon of Chiropodists arc con
ducting a foot survey of tht
school children of Oregon, and
Salem is the lint city in the
itate to have the aurvey. I
To date S2S children have!
been examined, and it it hoped
that all children In the grade
schools will be .However this
will depend on willingness of
FTA (roups. All survey! are
conducted free of any charge
by the Oregon State Associa
tion df Chiropodists.
Foot surveys were conduct
ed at St. Joseph's parochial
school and Oregon School for
the Deaf during November.
The percentage of foot disor
ders found In the Salem
school children corresponds
with findings of a study made
by the VS. Public Health
Service, in which It was found
that 80 percent of the adult
population Is suffering, or
has suffered from foot ailments.
Authorities agree, it is said,
that foot health education
has not been given prop
er emphasis in the nations
schools. As a result both chil
dren and parents are poorly
informed about matters of foot
health and foot care
A large percentage of foot
difficulties seen in children is
brought about by an improper
knowledge of foot hygiene and
care.
The objective of the foot
sjrveys are aimed toward the
promotion of foot health ed
ucation. It is recognized thst
foot health is known to affect
the seneral health, appearance
and the social adjustment of
a penon throughout his life.
Any PTA group that would
want a speaker for their meet
ing on the care of the feet of
children or wish to have their
school surveyed may contact
ny chiropodist to the city.
