Roseburg veterans hospital
were given by V.A.V. repre
sentatives, Mrs. Marion Each,
Medford, and Mrs. Minnie
Moyer, Roseburg.

baugh of Toledo, told of the
needs of the veteran's hospit
als. The new constitution and
by-laws were explained by
the parliamentarian, Mrs. Ar
thur McChesney.
Mr., Mrs. Vatson
Married 50 Years
Aurora Friendship house
of Smyrna church near Yoder
was the scene Sunday, Decem
ber 8, of open house in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Wat
son, on their EOth wedding an
niversary.
Parents of 10 children, the
honored couple were joined
at the anniversary festivities
by their nine living sons and
daughters, Mrs. Russel (Beu-
lah) Ray of Marquam, Mrs.
Melvin (Ester) Olson of Yoder,
Mrs. Paul (Amy) Nordyke,
Corvallis. Mrs. Harold (Anna)
Mclntyre, Vernonia, Howard
Watson ot Agate Beach; Mrs
Virgil (Hazel) Fahe, Gervais,
Mrs. Jerry (Rosa) Coffman of
Mehama, Richard Watson of
Yoder, and Fred Watson of
Oregon City. Their tenth
child, Mrs. Willis (Edith) Yo
der of Aurora, passed on in
1938. They have 23 grand
children and seven great
grand children.
Mr, and Mrs. Watson were
married December 8, 1903, in
Oregon City. Mrs. Watson,
nee Rosa Bonheur Yoder, was
born in Missouri. Mr. Watson
was born in 1878 at Moor-
head, Kansas.

by Mason McQuiston who ex
plained the state's pilot pro
gram for gifted children. Mr.
McQuiston is in charge of this
program.

sident, presided at the meeting
in the absence of the president,
Mrs. Robert W. Fenix.

mas party of Court Marion
Junior Catholic Daughters of
America. The party was at
tended by 45 members. Spe
cial guests were the Rev. Cle
ment Frank, OSB, chaplain of
the court; Mrs. Joseph Ficker,
junior chairman; counselors,
Mrs. Ben Ackerman, Mra. Le
ft o y Aman, Mrs. Dorothy
Sprauer, Mrs. Gordon Aman
and senior court grand regent,
Miss Eustelle Bauman.
Gifts were exchanged, and
games enjoyed. In charge of
the entertainment were the
Misses Ruth Ann Dieker, San-
dra Prosser, Joann Stupte and
Dorothy Baumgartner.

by the committee of Misses

erine He, Arlene Schmitz,

meeting which preceded the
Christmas party. Plans were
outlined for the annual skat
ing party Tuesday evening,
December 8, at the Oaks park
in Portland.
The four troops conducted
their recent meetings at
homes of members. Troop . St.
Margaret Mary Alacoque met
at the home of Miss Jo Ann
Michels. Next meeting will be
at the home of Miss Loreen
Ertelt. New mehmers of the
troop are Miss Mary Lou
Bockelman, Miss Mary Ann

Grant Mothers Set
Meeting Thursday
Christmas music will feature
the program for the meeting of
Grant School Mothers club on
Thursday ot this week at 1:15
p.m. in the school A high
school quartet led by Peter
Van Horn will appear, and the
school fifth graders will sing
carols, Mra. D. W. Pierson as
teacher. A student from the
speech department ot the high
school will give a five-minute
talk on Christmas seals.
Fifth grade mothers will be
hostesses, Mrs. Harry Taylor
and Mra. C. G. Lammers as
room mothers.
The board of the club met
this past week at the home ot
Mrs. D. W. Jory. Mrs. Paul
Silke presented committee re
ports. Mrs. James Gardner, fi
nance chairman, announced
the carnival in the spring. Mrs.
M. W. Wyatt, program chair
man, told about the program
for the December 10 meeting.
Cradle Roll Party
Silverton The annual
cradle roll party for the very
young children of the First
Christian church was at the
parsonage home Friday after
noon.' Assisting the children
were a few members formerly
of the cradle roll department
and now in the primary -department
ot the Sunday school.
The mother-committee ar
ranging the affair were Mrs.
Bill Bunting, Mrs. Ethel Harr
ington, Mrs. Mildred O'Brien,
Mrs. Helen Culver and Mrs.
Olaf Paulson, Jn.
Mrs. Olaf Paulson announc
ed the program. Taking part
were Sonya Paulson, Paul
Bunting, and a group'of small
girls who sang in pantomime.
Becky Bronson gave the clos
ing prayer. John Calkins told
the Christmas story. Betty
Harrington, of the older girls,
played Christmas hymns on
her violin.

Rural Women Meeting
Woodburn An exchange
of Christmas gifts will feature
the regular meeting of the
Woodburn Rural Woman's
club Thursday, December 10,
at the library club rooms and
"secret pals" will be revealed.
The meeting will open,wlth
a no-host luncheon at noon
with Mrs. Lester Henn as 1
chairman of the committee on I
arrangements. She will be as
sisted by Mrs. Marlin Ham
mond, Mrs. Elmer Mattson,
Mrs. Roy Arney, Mrs. Charles
Dean and Mrs. Dave Dryden.
Final plans for the Christmas
party and turkey dinner for
members and families on
December 17 will be made.

VFW Auxiliary
Silverton Veterans of For
eign Wars auxiliary met last
week. Sky watch and other
community services, netted
the unit 47 hours credit it was
reported. Donated was a sum
of $13 to a deserving family
as a Thanksgiving observance,
Mrs. Harry Walker, hospit
al chairman, received a letter
from Camp White acknow
ledging donations -valued at
827.50. Mrs. Clarence Quart-
ier took four Urge boxes of
books and small magazines to
Fairview home, Salem. Mrs.
Quartier also told of net pro
fit of 3.M, realized from
the noon luncheon served for
the attendants at the Dairy
Breeders association.
Mra Mark Wentzel was
named chairman of the Christ-

the auxiliary at the armory.
