Sweet Home Bids for the

ular city council meeting.
One bid waa submitted and
that was by F. Lembke of
First Sweet Home Bank. The
bid was accompanied by a
$7,500 cashier's check as good
faith deposit
The council accepted tne bid
for Vi per cent interest and
payment of $98.07 for each
$100 par value of bonds.

at grade with the Oregon Elec

Parker were authorized by the
council to sign the petition.
5. The motion was passed to
write . owners of property
giving 10 days to either pay
or bond. This referred to those
street assessments and sewer
assessments that had been
mcde since passing the en
abling ordinance No. 131 and
upon which no action has been
taken to. pay or bond.
6. The Mayor read Ordi
nance bill 22 for 1953 which
was an ordinance accepting
the bid of the First Sweet
Home Bank and it was passed
for the second reading
7. Mayor Ellis proclaimed
the title of Ordinance Bill
No. 19 for 1958 to become
Ordinance Number 232. This
dealt with making gran cut
ting mandatory on vacant lota

nesday, August 26, from the
chapel of the Sheridan Funeral
home, for Helmer Isakson of
Grand Ronde who passed away
August 23 at his home. Inter.
ment was in the Sheridan Mas
onic cemetery.
Survivors include his wife,
Rigmor of willamina: dsugh
ten, Grace Phillips of Beaver
Creek, Delores Bainer of Mc
Minnville; sons, Delmar F. Is
akson of Sheridan, Carl L. Is
akson of Willamina, Gene Is
akson of Modesto, Calif., Al

ur Isakson of Wichita Falls,

mother, Emma Marie Isakson

Mt Angel Mary Anna
Orth, 81, former Mt. Angel
resident, died at her home in
Portland Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Mrs. Orth was born Mar. 3,
1889. Her husband, Joseph
Orth, preceded her in death in
1928. Mrs. Orth lived at Mt
Arlgel until 15 years ago when
she moved to Portland.
Surviving are two sons, Ber
trand, Portland, and Lawrence
Orth of California.
The rosary will be recited at
8 p. m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at
at St Mary's Catholic church
in Mt Angel. Funeral services
will be at 9 a. m. Friday, Aug.
28 at St. Mary's church. Bur
ial will be in the Catholic cem
etery under direction of the
Unger Funeral Home.
Lawrence Gooding
St. Paul - Lawrence Peter
Gooding, 82, retired farmer
and a resident of the St. Paul
district for 63 years, died at
his home Thursday, Aug. 27.
Mr. Gooding married Emma
Waltz at St. Paul, April 29,
1902, who survives.
Also surviving are two
daughters, Loretta Gooding
and Erma Gooding of St. Paul;
and a sister, Mrs. Anna David
son of St. Paui.
The rosary will be recited
Friday, Aug. 28 at 8 p. m. in
the St Paul Catholic church.
Requiem mass will be offered
at 9 a. m. Saturday, Aug. 28
in the same church with vault

etery under direction of the
Hodson Mortuary, Newberg.

William E. Long
Donald William E. Long,
64, resident of Donald for 33
years died Monday morning
while at work with the San
tiam Lumber Co. near Sweet
Home.
Mr. Long was born Nov. 29,
1888 at Richardsville, Penn.,
and in 1909 at BrookvUle,
Penn., war married to Frances
Foust who survives.
They came to Oregon in 1910
and had lived at Gervais,
Wood burn and near Champoeg
before settling at Donald. Mr.
Long had been employed by
the Santiam Lumber Co. the
past 10 years.
Surviving besides the widow
are three sons and four daugh
ters, Oscar of Cloverdale, Flor
ence Sample and James Long,
of Donald; Jessie Larson, Sweet
Home; Elizabeth Johnson now
living in Ethiopia; Carl Long
of Springfield, Ore., and Shir
ley Wachtman of Hubbard;
twelve g and children and
three brothers and two sisters
in the east.
Funeral services will be
