Vogeler, who spent 17 months
In prison in Hungary on an
espionage charge, was an ex
ecutive ot I.T.ItT. during that

Jacob Rosenberg, attorney
for Vogeler, said he had filed !
papers and served a summons i
in the suit against I.T.&T. and
a subsidisry, the International
Standard Electrical Corp.
Rosenberg said he had not
yet filed a complaint and de
clined to disclose details ot the
suit. He said only that it dealt
with the period of Vogeler's
Imprisonment and was not. a
salary matter. 1
A. M. MaClennan, assistant
vice president ot the company,
said he knew ot nothing in
Vogeler's relations with the
firm to' "justify a suit."
Youth Sent to
State Hospital
At the request ot the defen
dant .himself, 17-year-old Ray
mond WallRce Satterlee, In
dicted recently for manslaugh
ter in connection with the
death of a 4-year-old compan
ion August 4 in the Pratum
area, was seni to we urcsuu
stato hospital for observation
when he appeared before Cir
cuit Judge George R. Duncan
Monday afternoon.
The commitment is for a pe
riod not to exceed 30 days. Mrs.
George Williams, foster mother
ot Satterlee, consented to the
commitment for psychiatric ob
servatlon. The 17-year-old
youth appeared serious and an
swered all questions put to him
by Judge Duncan in a straight
forward manner.
Following his stay in the
i,nnitai Satterlee will be
brought back into court
further consideration.
Woman Admits
Check Charge
Louise 8. Myers, mother of
two children, who said her
home waa in Aurora, Colo., but
who came to Salem from Los
Angeles via Lane county and
who is charged with obtaining
money by false pretenses,
pleaded guilty to the charge in
circuit court Monday
noon. Judge George R. Duneaa
placed the woman en two years
probation with thd understand
ing that she make restitution.
Counsel for the defendant

ted to issuing several worth
less checks in California and
Oregon, but that her parents
who live in Colorado were pre
pared to make restitution.
Joseph Poggi, released from
the state penitentiary a few
months ago as the result ot ha
beas corpus proceedings, asked
on a charge of burglary not In
a dwelling.
Raymond John Rightenour
was indicted by the grand Jury
charged with Intent to kill as
the result ot the death of John
Melton, Western Logging eonv
pany employs the night of July

Counsel for Rightenour filed
a demurrer to the indictment,
arguments on which were sche
duled for Tuesday afternoon.

expose a vicious black market
which peddled precious food
while hundreds died ot hunger
in a prison camp.
"The officers promised that
they were going to turn in the
men responsible when they got
back to freedom," said Sgt Bu
ord McNsmara of Memphis,
Tennessee.
'They were plenty mad
about it and probably would
have stopped it but the Chi
nese shipped them off to an
other camp first."
McNsmara said the black
market was run by a handful
ot American cooks who were
picked by the-Chinese to pre
pare the meager rations of food
offered to the POWs. .
"We would get some of It,
he said, "but they would sell a
lot of It for military script, to
bacco, rings, watches any
thing they could get

Hold 2-Day Reunion
. Silverton. 84 members of
one. family have reserved
ramp Silver Creek for a
grand reunion from mid-after,
noon on Sept. until mld-of-ternoon
on Sept. 11.
The couple who started this
family chain, Ernest A. and
Lucy Jane Schreiner, died at
their Klamath Tails home in
1835. Twelve children were
born to them, but the first one,
a daughter, died in infancy.
The remaining 11, four aons
and seven daughters, and their
husbands and wives, children
and grandchildren, have es
tablished their homes in the
three Pacific Coast states.
They will travel to the reun
ion from as far north' ss Olym
pis. Wash., and as far south
as Oakland. Calif.
Largely responsible for or
ganizing this affair is a

He retaliated against the car
penters two weeks after the
800.000-member union led by
' William C. (Big Bill) Hutcbe
aon quit the AFL because of a
dispute between Hutcheion and
national AFL leaders.
Meany instructed all state
and city AFL branches to "dis-1
associate and suspend" the car-j
penters, many of whom hold
key positions in local councils
ss well as in state federations.
