Speed City Hall
At Sweet Home
Sweet Home In special
meeting of the city council, it
was decided to install a warm
air, oil beating lyitem in the
new city halL
This decision was made after
a report from Architect Lyle
Bartholomew that cost , esti
mates for the structure were
based on an oil-type heating
system.
The city hall construction is
expected to begin in two
months and be completed by
next spring. The bids for the
purchase of Sweet Home's voter-approved
$79,000 bond is
sue which will finance con
struction of the new city hall
are due to be ope ted Tuesday,
Aug. 25. at the regular coun
cil meeting. '
Another approved item on the
agenda was the acceptance of
an offer of Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Christianson to deed the city
a 50-foot strip of property be
tween 4th and 5th Avenues, in
return for agreement by the
city to drain, grade and gravel
the area as a street
The crosswalk on L St. in
front of the Roxy theater was
to be moved west so that a
curb-out entrance leading into
property owned by Lloyd Mul
holland may be installed, ac
' cording to the approval given
by the council.
.' Carl Lester was denied per
i mission to move a portable cold
room to a position behind the
' Tourist Cafe because the struc-
ture was a non-conforming
) building located in the city fire
i rone.
I Fourteenth Avenue will have
i signs erected stating that the
v speed limit is to be 20 miles
per hour and stating caution
i Children. The signs which
j has been recommended by Bill
Reed at a previous meeting
were okayed by council at this
meeting and erection of signs
1 will start immediately.
i ' Another sign was authorized
to be erected on the right side
of A Street approaching the
city limits. Another one will
be placed on the east side of
11th Ave. and a third on the
west side of 11th Ave., for
south bound traffic in the vi
cinity of F St. These signs will
read. "25 Mile Speed Limit.

Pedestrian Saety -
Lebanon For having no
pedestraia deaths in 1952 due
to traffic accident, Lebanon re
ceived recognition this week
from the American Automobile
association.
The AAA citation in the na
tional pedestrian protection
contest was presented to Mayor
Elmer Fitzgerald at the city
hall by Ralph R. Cronise, direc
tor of the Oregon State Motor
association for this district.
Cronise said the judges of
the AAA's pedestrian contest
selected Lebanon for citation
from 13S1 competing commun
ities of all sizes.
Crowfoot, Waterloo j
Schools Open Sept. 8
Lebanon School will open
at Crowfoot and Waterloo on
Tuesday, Sept. , Supt George
Evans said today. The two dis
tricts wet consolidated last
year. An expected 400 pupils
wilt attend Crowfoot and 150
are estimated for Waterloo.
, Waterloo students will at
tend classes in a new six-room
modern structure Just complet
ed. Only slight remodeling has
been needed this summer at the
Crowfoot building.
Seventh and eighth graders
of both schools will be taught
at Crowfoot, and gradas one
through six will be taught in
hotli schools. Four buses will
be used for transportation.

which opens Sept 14, a new
multi-purpose room has Just
been finished for added con
venience in the three-room
school.
