Civil Defense
Way of Life
CoL Arthur M. Sheets, new
state director of civil defense,
warned Thursday that "Ameri-
cans must continue to accept
civil defense as part of their
way of life as long as 'there
are threats to world peace."
The warning was issued at a
meeting of civil defense serv
ice heads at which Gov. Paul
L. Patterson presented several
George Washington honor med
als. They went to Russell H.
Kaufman, chief of the physici
ans section of the Oregon civil
defense emergency medical
service, and O. R. Blair, direc
tor of the Oregon civil defense
transportation service. The
awards were for outstanding
work In preparing against pos
sible enemy attack.
Both men have worked three
years for civil defense on a vol
untary basis.

After several days investi
gating, the owner, Miss Mar-
jorle Leonard, daughter, of the
Charles. Leonards, identified
the loss as her own which con
tained $15 in cash. She gen
erously, rewarded the boy for
his honesty.

purchased by Harold Reevea.
according to an announcement
made Jointly by Reeves and
Walker. They had been part
ners in the business for more
than a year. Reevea said the
new store name would be
Reeves Music company. .
Johnnie Walker opened the
east Grant street business in
1046 and managed it full time
until he purchased the Albany
Music store in 1852.
