Come August 21, peak of the bean season for Blue Lake Packers, tnc, 378 Pat
terson street, West Salem, will see near 1500 persons employed at a ' plant where
about 32S tons of beans will be processed daily. It is estimated that 85 member
growers will deliver 7,000 tons of beans to Blue Lake this year. Top, left; Beans are
now delivered to the plant in wooden boxes containing up to 1,100 pounds. Delivery
in boxes rather than in bags results in an economy of space and greater efficiently in
handling. Shown is a box being mechanically dumped as an initial step in plant pro
cessing. Lower, left: Shown here are women working on snipper inspection belts. A
total of 27 snipping machines are on the bean line where about 13 tons are handled
each hour. Top, right: No. 10 hand packed bean filler where bean cans are filled
