San Francisco U. The Los

from their recent riot with
Hollywood, were the prime

Even though they knew

last night to drop the Suds

And not to be selfish or
anything the Hackers also
tightened their grip on third
place in the league standings.
Angels Tighten Third
Los Angeles has come from
behind to win more games
than any other club in the
loop this year and last night's
heart-stoppers were no ex
ception. In the first game
Mhey spotted the Suds 4-0
lead then rallied, to tie it up
4-4 after the first four in
iings. Singles by Les Feden
and Murray Franklin then
' snapped the tie in the fifth
and cost relief pitcher Tom
Lovrich the game. The final
score was 5-4.
The Angels then trudged in
' to home half of the nightcap's
ninth inning trailing 8-3 and
erupted for six runs to stun
the Rainiers, 9-8. A pinch
double by Dixie Upright was
the blow that plummeted Al
Widmar to his 12th loss.
Kenny Gables handcuffed
the Twinks with a three-hitter
in the seven-inning lid-
lifter to assure the Sacs a 2-0
vcitory. Bob Dillinger dou
bled in one of the runs against
loser Junior Walsh then trip
led and tallied on Johnny Rit
chey's single - for the other.

State one of the "unholy three'
colleges facing disciplinary ac
tion this week-end by the
NCAA's hard-boiled council?
This was the big question in
hotel lobbies Thursday as the
National Collegiate AthleticJ
Association's various commit
tees swung into a series of im
portant mid-summer meetings.
The NCAA has announced
the council will act this week
end, possibly Saturday, or Sup
day, on a report of the mem
bership committee citing three
unidentified institutions for al
leged violations of the athletic
code.
Arizona State at Tempe is
said to be a second under scrut
iny while the third remained
a mystery. The NCAA brass
wssn't telling anything.
Michigan State, which pro
duced the No. 1 football team
in the country last year, la re
ported on thin ice because of
practices which already has
drawn the censure of the Big
Ten Conference.
The Big Ten placed the
Spartans on probation until
they could produce details of a
foundation set up by alumni to
bring talen to the university.
Arizona State also is being
investigated because of recruit
ing practices.
Angels Involved
In Another v
Triple Play -
Los Angeles U.R The Los
Angeles Angels were involved
in their third triple play in
three weeks in the second gsme
last night when Seattle pulled
off baseball's neat trick. .
In the sixth inning Frsnkle
Diprima doubled, and Dick
Smith walked. Seattle starter
Jim Davis gave way to Art Del
Duca. Murray Franklin hit a
blooper apparently out of Artie
Wilson's reach over second, but
Wilson somehow gloved it and
threw to Gordon Goldsberry at
first.
Goldsberry heaved the ball;
to Merill Combs covering sec
ond, and Seattle had a triple
play.
The Angel engineered one
against Hollywood two weeks
ago and Portland snsgged Los
Angeles on one last week.
