Pat 20 THE CAPITAL JOURNAL. Salem. Oregon Wednesday. August It, 1953 Confusion in School Names T h designation of Lincoln for two schools within the Sa lem district may prove conlus lnc and Dr. Wolcott E. Buren, In a communication to the board, believes that the name given the buUding in the Four Corners area should give way to something else. This would mean that the Lincoln school In Polk county, acquired through eonsoiiaauon, wnnM h retained. The directors expressed the opinion that Dr. Buren may have something and appear willing to go along with the proposal providing a suitable name be forthcoming for the Four Corners building. Dr. Buren suggested the name "Waldo," in honor of WUiam Waldo, an early day pi oneer who served in the state legislature during the 1880. However, Dr. Buren states that ethers may have names Just as appropriate and the school board is willing to listen to all suggestions. The Polk county Lincoln has considerable historical signifi cance. It was pointed out. At the time the school became a portion of the larger aisinci, the directors considered the posibility of a change, but pi geonholed the Idea temporar ily. The board agreed to accept the contracts of four teachers who will operate at the Halls Ferry and Mountain vtew schools during the 1853-54 term. These schools were con solidated wiht Salem last spring.
