School Board Cautious
In Considering Bids
Numerous bidi were receiv
ed by the Salem school board
Tuesday night for a variety of
supplies needed by the district,
but In only one instance wis
final action taken.
This was the bid of H. L.
Elfstrom company for aeoustl
cat material for Bush, Ingle
wood, Garfield, Richmond, Sa
lem Heights and mguana
schools. The bid, the only one
received, was $1800. The to
tal is well within the budget
estimate. -
Bids on fuel oil, gasoline and
ether petroleum products, and
Ice cream were referred to
committees with power to act

of 13,889 and IJ.10 per barrel,
respectively.
Arden Farms bid $1.14 per
gallon for 3000 gallons of bulk
and brick ice cream. Deluxe
bid $1.16. Arden's bid for 19,.
000 dozen of five cent novelty
ice cream products was 38
cents dozen and that of De
luxe was 39 cents. Arden bid
80 cents per dozen for the 10
cent novelty ice creams and
Deluxe bid 78 cents.
The bid of Eoff Electric sub
mitted at a previous meeting,
for a transformer wss accepted.
The proposal of the State
Farm Mutual Insurance com
pany for liability coverage on
the district's bus fleet was ac
cepted. A saving of 25 per
cent over a year's period is
probable. Insurance on com
mercial vehicles will be car
ried with the concerns now
giving coverage.
The board is expected to is
sue a call for bids Aug. 25 on
the second allotment of bonds
in' connection with the con
struction of the new South Sa
lem high school.
The-offer of $380 for the old
bouses and garages on the site
of the proposed administration
building, submitted after the
auction was accepted by the
board. All bids received dur
ing the auction were rejected.
The house known as the "par
sonage' is not to be wrecked
before Sept 15, providing sn
opportunity for its removal if
funds can be raised.
