Marion Street
The Marion street bridge In
Salem was formally accepted
Thursday by the state highway
commission at the August
meeting held in Portland.
With a few costs not yet
tabulated, the Marion street
bridge will cost somewhat less
the $1,500,000. The steel fur
nished by the American Bridge
company cost $261,634; the pier
construction by Lee Hoffman,
contractor, cost $258,567 and
the approaches and other work
on the bridge contracted to the
General Construction company
cost $863,400, or a total of $1,
383,601.
Construction of the piers be
gan on January 13, 1950 and
the bridge was thrown open to
traffic on December 14, 1952.
Upon completion of the recon
struction of the Center Street
bridge, both Marion and Cen
ter street bridges will become
one-way traffic arteries.
Teamsters Sued
Lakeview Case

In federal court here Wednes
day by the National Labor Re
lations Board against the AFL
Teamsters' Union, Lakeview,
Ore., local.
It Is an outgrowth of a long
dispute between the Lakeview
Creamery Co. and the union.
which is trying to organize env
ployes of the firm. The dispute
drew state-wide attention after
Lakeview townspeople unload
ed beer June 2 from a truck
over protest of Its driver. The
driver had turned away from
the creamery because of pick-
1 eting.
The suit, .filed by Regional
NLRB Director Thomas P.
I Graham, Jr., seeks to enjoin
?. the union from further inter-
C ferine with operations of the
' creamery. It said the union has
tried since April 7 to keep the
' Lucky Lager beer company and
other firms from doing busi -
tless with the creamery. -
A ffrand lurv investicated the
June 2 incident with Atty. Gen,
Robert Y. Thornton conducting
the case. The grand jury's re
port said the townspeople had
committed several minor in
fractions of the law and that
police failed to protect the un
ion driver's load.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ce
cilia Olmstead, Salem and Don
ald area resident, for over 50
years, who died Monday morn
ing after a short Jllness, will
be held at the Clough-Barrick
chapel Friday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock. Interment will be in
the Pioneer (IOOFi cemeterv.
Mrs. OlmsUd, who had ml
been well for the past year,
died at her home at 1155 Co
lonial avenue.
Over 50 years ago Mrs. Olm
sted and her husband, Louis
Olmsted, who survives her,
came to Salem to make their
home. After residing here for
a number of years they moved
to the Donald area and then
returned to Salem a year ago
after making their home near
Donald for 23 or 24 years. She
spent her girlhood in Akron,
Ohio.
Survivors besides her hus
band Include two brothers, Earl
Petit of Oregon City and Otto
Petit of Port Angeles, Wash.;
four grandchildren, Mrs. Mary
Worden and Leonard Olmsted,
both of Salem, Mrs. Margue
rite Marsh of McMinnville and
Lawrence Olmsted of Camp
Pendleton, Calif.; and one great
grandchild.
Hike Prices of
Orange Juice
Washington CU.R) An agricul
ture department official said
the price of frozen orange juice
is going up because Americans
are drinking it faster than it
can be processed.
He estimated yesterday that
household purchases alone are
currently running at a rate of
about 55,000,000 gallons a year,
and that doesn't count the large
volume used by hotels and res
taurants.
. The department estimates
that total output of frozen
orange Juice concentrate this
year at about 50,500,000 gal
lons. The official said there is no
immediate danger of an orange
juice shortage because produc
ers can draw on their cold
storage stocks. Built up in past
years when the demand wasn't
so great, these stocks totalled
about 23,242,000 gallons at the
end of June.
