Azaleas a Beautiful

state park near Brookings, Ore

Some of these bushes are re
puted to be more than 400 years
old. The hundreds of native
aaeleas were discovered by the
late Sam Boardman, who was
the "father" of the Oregon park
system, the land purchased by
the state, and developed with
roadways and picnic facilities
to enable the visitors to enjoy
the beauties of these . native
plants. Citizens of. Brookings
stage an azalea festival at the
park in the latter part of May '
when the blooms are fully ma
