Baum is 31 years old, and has been prominent in work on appropriation and retirement bills. , Baum is serving in his third session. . Francis is 88, and has been in the House since 1943. He is ' chairman of the powerful ; House Statute Revision and Ju diciary Committees. A lawyer, he has served seven terms as mayor of Dayton. Company Employes Have Share in Fund Seventeen employes of the Salem plant of Pacific Fruit and Produce company have an Interest in the accumulated $3,- 487,780 fund of the parent or ganizadon which was set up In 1843. All employes, regardless of position are entitled to share in the fund after completing five yean service with the compa ny. The company makes annual contributions to the profit shar ing fund based on percentage of net earnings before taxes. The employes do not contribute any money whatsoever. Participation is on the basis of annual compensation and length of service. He also parti cipates pro-rata in the earnings of the invested fund. Payments begin when the employ re tires from the company. Clam Diggers Busy With Low Tides Astoria U.RX Clam diggers were taking advantage of the low tides this wees aiong Clatsop county beaches to scoop up limit take of their favorite bivalves. Minus tides were scheduled through Saturday and swarms of outsiders were expected during the week-end to go after the' clams with shovels and sacks. Diggers have reported tak ing their limit of three dozen clams almost every day this week and oldtlmers here say good digging should continue through the week. Nearly Starves Before False Teeth Returned Houston (UB George Smooth changed his diet from soup to something more solid today. Smooth, 37, lost bis false teeth five weeks ago and the nun who found them, Louis Martinez, 66, refused to give them back without 908 re ward. Deadlock on Rain Makers A Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee Wednesday stepped into the Senate-House quarrel over licensing ram makers by : approving the House version. Tne subcommittee recom mended the bill of Rep. Robert Root, Medford, which would let the Department of Agricul ture license persons to try to change tne weather. This bill, passed by tne House, would en courage weather control exper iments. The other bill, by Sen. Ben Day, Gold Hill, has been pass ed by the Senate. It would create a State Weather Modi fication Board, with more i vert restriction on the weath er makers. Both bills were sent to the! Way and Means Committee. When told of the subcommit tee' action, Day said no bill at all would be better than Root'. Both senators are from Jackson county. Senators Slip One on Morse Washington VP) Sen. Morse, Ind., - Ore., left the senate chamber for a while Tuesday and three fellow senators swiftly took advantage of his absence. They asked for and got unanimous consent for their committees to hold some meet ings during the next few days or two weeks while the sen ate is Itself in session. Morse ha been blocking this unani mous consent whenever it was requested. The three who won the con sent spoke for committees as follows: Capehart, R., Ind., banking; Welker, R., Idaho, internal security, and Fergu son, R.-Mlch., armed services I subcommittee on ammunition.
