of the Stayton Toastmistress
club last week at the library of
the union high school.
Mrs. Rose Bell as presiding of

Box for some time preceding
their coming to Silverton.

The Tri-Y-Teen Mothers club
will hold its last meeting of the
school year Thursday at the
YWCA. Coffee and dessert will
be served at 12:30 p.m. with the
meeting beginning at 1 o'clock.

will discuss parent-child rela
tionships from the viewpoint of

Daughters of Court Queen of
Peace honored their mothers at
breakfast last Sunday morning,
following mass. The meal was
prepared by members of the
senior court. Each mother wore
a corsage, made and presented
by her daughter.

duced the guests. Mrs. Rose Bell,
national CDA director, led the
group in prayer. Mrs. Cecelia

former governor of Oregon, cel
ebrated his 79th birthday here
Tuesday.
West, a democrat, was gover
nor from 1911 to 1915. He has
maintained a keen interest in
politics and had this to say of
the present presidential race:
"If God still reigns, and
wishes to preserve this govern
ment from crooks and wastrels,
He will direct the republicans
to nominate Eisenhower and the
democrats Kefauver and will
leave them free to select their
own running mates."

tor of St. Paul's, who was the
selection of the Eagles lodge
Tuesday night for its annual
citizenship award.
Citizen Plaque
To George Swift
Rev. George H. Swift, rector
of St. Paul's Episcopal church,
was announced Tuesday night as
the selection of the Eagles lodge
for its annual good citizenship
award.
Rev. Mr. Swift is not an Ea
gle. The basis of the selection,
made by a board of past presi
dents of the lodge, was the
clergyman's contribution to the
good of the community. He was
called to the Tuesday night meet
ing of the lodge where a plaque
was presented him in recogni
tion of his services.
Starting three years ago the
award has been made annually
by the Eagles, the first time to
R. (Tad) Shelton, county asses
sor, and the second time to Da
vid O'Hara, alderman-and super
visor of the elections division of
the state department.
