Oregon Teacher Survey
Gets Started Monday
The survey of teacher educa
tion in Oregon, sponsored by the
tate board of higher education,
got uner way in earnest Mon
day when Dr. Earl W. Anderson
of Ohio State university, recent
ly appointed research director
for the survey, arrived in Port
land. Anderson was introduced to
members of the board of higher
education, which met Monday
morning at the Benson hotel,
and will confer with the survey
committee Monday afternoon.
. The Ohio educator was rec
ommended by Dr. T. C. Holy
who conducted the survey of
public schools for the legislature
last biennium. Anderson will
spend one week in Oregon on
this trip, and will return for six
months on June In.
Under the board's present al
location of major work, element
ary teacher education is con
ducted by the three colleges of
education at Monmouth, Ash
land and Lb Grande. Secondary
teacher education is the assigned
function of the University of
Oregon and Oregon State col
lege. The general extension div
ision, which operates classes on
a state-wide basis, draws in
structors from all campuses and
offers work but no degrees in
both fields.
Survey committee chairman
Dr. J. F. Cramer, stricken with
Illness in February, is expected
to resume his work with the
committee by June when Ander
son returns on a full-time basis.
Anderson will be located in Port
land. In approving the survey, the
board indicated it would call in
at least two additional outside
consultants when the committee
and its research director have
compiled data on teacher educa
tion in Oregon.
