Independence The children
of the Independence-Monmouth
Methodist church will give their
annual Christmas program on
Friday, Dec. 21, at the church,
starting at 7 p.m. The setting
for the program will be in the
midst of usual Christmas deco
rations, with emphasis during the
program being placed on those
thpughts and sayings which
come naturally from children
durine the Christmas season,
Participating in the program will
be all of the church school chil
dren, beginning with the nursery
and continuing through the high
school class. Following this
urogram in the auditorium the
children will adjourn with their
parents to the church fellowship
room for a family Christmas par
ty. Games will be played
light refreshments served, and
gifts from Santa Ulaus will De
given out. The program is in
charge of Mrs. Mert Sugden,
Mrs. Carrie Smiley, Mrs. Mar
shall Powell and Mrs. Floyd Al
bin. The ladies of the Woman's
Society of Christian Service are
in charge of refreshments.
Sunday morning the pastor of
the Methodist church. Rev. W. L.
Nvbere. will sneak on "The
Other Christmas Story."
"The Purpose of the Incarna
tion" will be the subject of the
morning sermon of Rev. Vernon
EKKebraaten of the First Bap
tist church. Guest soloist for the
day will be Miss Yvonne Pool
of Salem.
Mrs. Carl Pressler, assisted by
superintendents' and teachers of
the different departments of the
Sundny school of the Baptist
church, will present the children
in a program at the church at
7:30 Sunday night. The pri
mary department will feature "A
Living Christmas Tree." The
junior department will bring
recitations, exercises and music.
A short drama, "One Day," will
be given by the senior class. At
the close of the evening treats
will be given to the children.
Members of the Berean class
will meet at the church Friday
night to decorate the auditorium
and trim the Christmas tree.
This will be followed by a social
time and light refreshments.
The Sunday school children of
the Presbyterian church will pre
sent a program Sunday evening
under the direction of Mrs. Jim
Stapleton, assisted by Mrs. Bev
Walker. Costuming for the pag
eant, "Once Upon a Christmas
Time." was done by Mrs. Marlow
Butler. Music for the evening
will be given by the Youth Choir
of the church.

nouncing the presentation of
the pageant, "Going to the Man
ger," on Sunday morning, Dec.
23 at 9:45 a.m.
The pageant was written by
Ida Emerson Hannum and has
been adapted to include an even
150 children of the church
school. Pageant with a musical
background, it depicts the birth
of Jesus and the significance of
the Christmas story.
Miss Frances will be organist
and furnish background music.
Mrs. Lawrence Lierman will be

ment choristers who will sing
carols. Mrs. Craig Clark will ac
company the primary and kin
dergarten departments of the
church school when these

Child is Born," will be the ser
mon topic of Rev. Trick and the
choir will sing two Christmas
anthems.
Solemn high mass with Rev.
V. L. Moffenbeier as celebrant
at Midnight Christmas eve at
St. Luke's Catholic church will
be preceded by a tableau of four
scenes, closing at the crib with
the adoration music by the
choir and with a Christmas suite
of organ music. There will be
two masses at the St. Agnes
Catholic church at Hubbard on
Christmas morning the first at
8:30 and the second following
immediately.
A cantata "The Christmas
Garden," will be presented by
the choir of the Church of God
at the 11 a.m. service. The
children's program will be. held
Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock.
The Christmas program at St.
Mary's Episcopal church will
begin with the Christmas pa
geant "Spirit of Yule" Sunday
at 7:30 p.m. On Christmas eve
at 11:30 o'clock there will be
festival Midnight Eucharist. Ad

the topic "What Child is This?"
Music will be by the choir with
solos by Mrs. John Hooper and
Mrs. Boyd Brown. Holy Com
